Helton is not with them in the 1920 census and she is living back with her parents with son William and her last name is Suttin. Apparently remarried sometime 1910-1920 and widowed or divorced This line (H??? Helton) is my main line of interest. ( can anyone do a marriage lookup for me???) Hopefully his full name and parents name will be listed. 2. Mary A. "Mollie" b ca1875 married to James W. Odell 3. Luther G. b ca1879 married Lucinda Unknown 4. Maggie b ca1881 5. Alexander b. ca1885 married Carrie Unknown 6 Vesta b ca 1889 7. Next dorr to them is a Dano Hammet b. ca1842 also - living with Dano Chandler (hard to make out) and next to them is the family of Zachariah Chandler with a John Hammet living with them. A few doors away there is a John Helton b ca 1781 NC. Is this the same Joseph P. Hammett that married Cordelia. It looks like they were orphans and neighbors took them in. 3. From: Carolyn Johnson <mamawcarolyn@peoplepc.com> Sent: Jun 15, 2005 11:56 PM JOHNSON REUNION This is to remind everyone that the Johnson Reunion for the descendants of John A. and Elliza Hensley Johnson will be Saturday June 18th at the Farmers Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall, beginning at 11:00. John was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia in 1814, and Eliza was born in 1824, probably in Knox County. Thay are buried in the old Johnson Cemetery in the "Lost Bottom" area of Anderson County, an area at one time called "Kirkstall." Their children included Jerome, George, Napoleon, Rev. John, Thomas, Mary, William, Martha, Demarcus, Samintha and Richard. One of the highlights of this year's reunion will be the "Family of Soldiers" quilt which has been designed and handmade by Earldene Nelson Miller to honor our men and women who have served in the military from the Revolutionary War to present day Iraq. It includes the name of Joseph Anderson, Revolutionary War patriot, U. S. Congressman and first comptroller of the United States Treasury. Anderson County is ! named for him. Rev. John Johnson was first pastor of Farmers Grove Baptist Church beginning in 1897. There will be a pot luck lunch, fun and games for the kids and probably some music in the afternoon. For more information call me at 865-457-3076 or e-mail me at <mamawcarolyn@peoplepc.com>. 2. Larry Mills
    3. Sent the wrong material, sorry I am seeking info for ancestors of McHenry Bray and Peter Wolfe. I understand at one time, McHenry was sheriff of Hancock County. He married Cynthia Wolfe, daughter of Peter Wolfe. McHenry dad's name was Henry. I have reason to believe that Henry died and Margaret, Henry Bray's wife married, ole Peter Wolfe. Henry Bray's will read as follows: May 11, 1827 Hawkins County, Tennessee Will Book 1 page 33 Will of Henry >> Bray >> I Henry Bray of Hawkins County First I give and bequest to Margaret my >> dearly beloved wife all that I possess and what's left to raise my children on signed Henry Bray (his mark) attest: Benjamin Bray Jr, Benjamin Bray Sr. Well the plot thickens, Peter Wolfe had a daughter by his first wife and her name was Cynthia Wolfe. McHenry Bray married his step sister (no blood relation) Cynthia Wolfe . I am looking for Peter Wolfe's first wife name and Margaret (Maiden name unknown) Bray Wolfe's maiden name. I will gladly share info. Larry Mills

    3. Hello Everyone, Dr. Ken Mills, Robin Warren and myself will be hosting a Mills reunion in the Hancock & Hawkins County, Tennessee area in July 22nd & 23rd of 2006. Please mark your calendar and let's have a big turn out. Please forward this e-mail to anyone that we may have missed. Anyone with any ties to the Mills' are invited to attend. We are looking for a big turn out and anyone that is coming please respond and tell me how folks that may come with you. I realize that July 2006 is a long time off but it will sneak up on us before we know it. One of our ancestors was Joseph (Joel) Mills and he was bushwhacked in 1862 or 1863 and we plan a field trip to visit his grave (it is unmarked and out in the middle of an open field) and then go to the Mills-McCoy Cemetery which is about a mile from there on Sunday. We will also see Hezekiah Mills' home as it is just across the road from the Mills -McCoy Cemetery. We will be having a picnic on Saturday at the Sneedville Community Center and Scott Collins, County Court Clerk of Hancock County has agreed to come and speak to us on the Malungeons. Please mark your calendars as everyone that is into genealogy will be bringing their files and we will have a jam session. Looking forward to a great time getting together. If you are not into family trees, we want you to attend. We want to meet all of our cousin that is possible. I will be moving to Mooresburg Tennessee July 29, 2005 and will have a new address but my e-mail will be the same. 1. The mystery of William Cook, Union County
    2. Ken Estabrook
    3. The biggest "hole" in my genealogy is William Cook, my g-g-grandfather, a resident of Union County, TN, s. of Pleasant Cook (9/9/1812-11/11/1896; s. of William Cook and Mary Hughes) and Charlotte Lay (10/13/1816-11/24/1860; d. of William Lay and Sarah Capps). 1850 Census records for Grainger County have William Cook age 14 (hence born ca. 1836); 1860 Census records for Union County (which was created from parts of five counties, including Grainger) have him age 24 and married to Edna Haun (1/29/1831-12/12/1914; d. of Adam Haun and Mary "Polly" Austin) with a new six-month-old baby, Pleasant Newton (12/14/1859-7/9/1932). Subsequently, William died sometime before a March 2, 1863, court action (Union County Court Min 2/335) naming Edna as guardian of P.N., "minor orphan of William Cook deceased." Edna is remarried to a James Cook by November 1866. From what I understand, many of the Union County Court records no longer exist. I have tried to trace the court minutes during two trips to Union County (1992 and 2001), but without success. I am going again this fall with my cousin to do more family history research, including a third attempt to track down more information on William. Making this research more complex is the fact that William Cook is such a common name. Plus, several sources suggest that he may have been named James William Cook or William James Cook. A distant relative, a life-long Union County resident, recalled family stories that Edna had been married to two "Jimmy Cooks." Given that William was 24 in 1860 and died by 1863, it's possible that he might have fought in the Civil War, although there's no family anecdotes to support that. That said, since East Tennessee families were torn between those for the Union and those for the Confederacy, it was not unusual for military service to be hidden, especially when the family had Union leanings and a son or brother was in the Confederate Army (or vice versa). Anyhow, I would appreciate anything anyone could provide to help solve the mystery of William Cook. Regards, Ken Estabrook Home-mail: squamlaker@msn.com Work e-mail: ken.estabrook@jhuapl.edu

    2. DEBORAH ONEAL
    3. Not sure if this is going to help or add to the mystery but: There is a Clela Webber in the SSDI born 10 Jan 1902 and died Nov 1994. Knoxville last known address. Then there is Clela Webber age 17 listed in the 1920 Census in Grainger County as wife of John M Webber age 20-- Daughter Alura C Webber 3/12 in household as well. Household above has Elbert P Webber age 27 and Lula Webber age 29. (pge 157 sheet 1a) Elbert P and John M are sons of Joseph Anderson Webber. Joseph and wife Jane Mathis are found in Grainger County in 1900 and 1920-1930 Census. Joseph is the son of John Humphries Webber. I couldn't find a Clarence Webber in Grainger County in the 1930 census. The only Clarence I did find was the son of Bertie and Ethel Webber in Anderson County. Clarence was born around 1909 though. I tried the names William and Red without any success either. Then again I can't find Clela, John or Alura Webber either in the 1930 Census. Debbie Oneal The only thing I can find that comes close to Red is John M's brother Fred but he was born about 1908 and appears to be married to a Gertrude and daughter Frances. He was living in Grainger County though. ----- Original Message ----- From: Barbara<mailto:barbarakesterson@peoplepc.com> To: TNGRAING-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:TNGRAING-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 31, 2005 4:27 PM Subject: Clarence Webber Looking for information on Clarence William"Red" Webber born April 21, 1921 in Washburn, Grainger Co., TN.
