Dear Evelyn, I have already checked for Daniels marriages, but these records begin too late (1778) to include any information on Edward Daniel, Sr.'s mariage to Anna?. Evelyn, where did get this information that Anna was a Mayes? I have long believed that Anna was a Mayes. A researcher posted the same information to the Mayes message board some months back, but I don't know where this information came from. I no longer believe that I am descended from Edward Daniel, Sr., but I have been carrying his will around for years because Isaac Daniel was the bondsman for my great great grandpasrents marriage (James Mayes to Louisa Gray). If this is causing everyone on the list to get a bad genealogical headache I am twice descended form the Mayes once through Sherrod's daughter, Jane iVY (IVEY) and I believe through Sherrod's brother, Henry. There appears to be contrary information running around and I have not posted my information for fear of starting a feud on Mayes GenForum (actually I have in thoery never seen this information, but a cousin passed it on to me <smile>) This researcher never answered my emails. (OTOH I am guilty of not answering genealogical queries. Real life does go on. I have resolved rather than devoting all MY (limited) free time to research and to go through my entire inbos my and answer EVERY query I have not responded to even if it is something like, "My great grandather was John Mayes. Do you know who is his paretns were?" <smile> However, Larry Hodge NOT hiding HIS light under a bushel <grin>posted this same information (I mean what I believe) to GenForum some years ago. <smile> I am gathering up my thoughts (and have been dong so for awhile in hopes of posting something about the possible antecedents of James to this list). <smile> Anyway Evelyn, I don't know if I have ever written to you, but it was great to see your message on the list! I have not seen a message from you from some time. I tseems to me that those of us who are reseaching the Mayes, Daniels is getting shorter all the time. (This applies to all the other families I am researching. Are people losing interest in doin family history?) Gail, Thank you! That makes me feel a little better about it being out there and wrong. Heaven knows I've done my best to get it corrected everywhere I have found it wrong, and I am still happy to send a copy of the bond to anyone that is interested in "seeing for themselves." Betty, The Ancestry info on John and Sally comes from a database called "Tennessee Marriages to 1825" and was compiled by Liahona Research at the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT. The introduction to the database states that it unfortunately does not contain citations for the origin of each entry and advises to use only as a place to start in gathering information. Gail, Thanks so much for the information. I have the birth/death dates etc from Isaac's tombstone and his parents as well but was hoping the death certificate might yield some new information. Isaac Soard's property in Hamblen included a Cave known as Soard's Cave. The property was also owned by the Fry family and I suspect Fry's school must be nearby. The name of the Cave changed to Fry's Cave. Thank you again for your help and information. I have searched the Ancestry online database for Margaret and John Green Roach's marriage record. (I tried various clever stategems searching under Peggy or Maggie since these were nick names for Margaret just Green . Eliminating the Mc since there were a lot of Daniels in Grainger County and maybe the transcriber just read Daniel etc. The Early Tennessee marraiges database was compiled by Liahona Research and used various sources. The sources are not indicated but I suspect that the records that we have all fruitlessly searched for for years are NOT in this database. Let me check some Orange County material, but there are gaps in the Orange County records too. The only date I have for my Henry Ivy's marriage to Jane Howell is the date listed in Henry's Revolutionary pension file. As far as I know no other researcher has located the original record either since any material I have seen on Henry lists the pension file as the source. However, we should all stop "grinching" <grin> since for some reason and I don't know why I was looking for a South Carolina marriage. Probably trying to resume researching the Morristown folks who came out here. Searching a southern genealogy is NOT that easy as opposed to a New England genealogy where you have local vital records from the beginning. However, even in the south marriages were recorded very early at least on the County Level. Not in SOUTH CAROLINA!!!apparently, although for some reason I didn't know this. South Carolina didn't start recording marriages until the 20 th century!! I swear this is my FINAL question. <grin> Does anyone know anything about the Caspar Weston who is listed in Captain McKee's Company on the 1799 tax list. Gail
Just a thought--Rutha and William Maples might have both moved to KY to be with/near their son and Rutha might have died there rather than in Tennessee. > > From: "Barbara" <bhutchens@iquest.net> > Date: 2006/02/23 Thu PM 12:28:44 EST > To: TNGRAING-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [TNGRAING-L] lookups > > Hi > well the last track i have for Rutha Maples is she was listed in 1900 > grainger co 1900 census Her husband William Maples moved to Rockcastle Co Ky > in 1910 census Wd.living with his son Sam > Thank You > Barbara > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "kaitysmom" <kaitysmom@peoplestel.net> > To: <TNGRAING-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, February 23, 2006 11:22 AM > Subject: Re: [TNGRAING-L] lookups > > > > Dear Barbara, > > > > Hello, I checked the index from 1908-1925 for Grainger County and did not > > find her listed.
