Cindy, Thanks so much for volunteering to do lookups. I have several Grainger County lines, but am most interested in the Camerons right now. I would be interested in information on any Cameron in the books, but especially Absalom and his children. Here's the list of names and dates of those for whom I have not found tombstones yet: Absalom Cameron, 30 July 1791 - 9 Sep 1856, Elizabeth *Betsey* (Gallion) Cameron, ca. 1796 - ca. 1857-59 (?) John Cameron, 30 Dec 1812 - ca. 1870s-80 Mary Ann (Pollard) Cameron, ca. 1811 - ca. Oct 1881 Preshey Cameron, 30 Mar 1815 - ? Sally (Cameron) Beeler, 17 Oct 1816 - ? And I would be happy to exchange some research time with you. Let me know what lines you need help on and I will see if I can help you. Does anyone have a Louis or Ludicia Williams or a Margaret Holmes in their tree? They would somehow connect to the Housewright family. (From Hawkins or Grainger) Would have been around in 1874. Thanks, Linda

Lynda, Thanks, I had already looked up the number and called right after they opened this morning. As you say the staff is small and they are not able to do lookups. When I asked about trying to buy copies of the book, the librarian did give me more information about the books which I am providing below and will follow up on. The books are in typescript form and were compiled by Marguerite Williams and/or the TVA in the 1940s. They are not a "published" book for which there would be copies for sale, except that the TVA may provide a copy at a very high price. Also, the books are not indexed by surname. The information is arranged by cemetery and the names are not alphabetical even by cemetery. So if you don't know the cemetery, then you have to search the whole book. There are books for Cherokee Reservoir, Douglas Reservoir, etc., so you have to know where the cemetery was to know which book to look in. Obviously a very time-consuming search through all the books if you don't know the cemetery. The books cannot be taken out of the library, but pages from the books can be photocopied. I don't know if anyone local is willing to do lookups, but that sounds like a much needed project. I will post to the list what I can find out about the possibility of getting copies from the TVA unless someone else already has that information and can post it to the list. Hi, Somewhere in Grainger County, probably between Washburn & Powder Springs, and not far from Williams Creek, there was a farm owned by George Needham. I believe his son/grandson was George B. Needham who served as a Justice of the Peace ca. 1870. According to the letters from Dicey Vandergriff, there is an old cemetery on this property, with burials occuring 1860-1870. Does anyone on the list have any idea where this cemetery may be. I don't believe it is documented in the cemetery books for Grainger County. I would also like to know the names of parents, husband, and children of Winnie Vandergriff Phipps. Thanks, Betty

I remember seeing a bk. or bks. at the Southern California Genealogical Library with info on the grave removals and dams in Grainger Co. You can probably contact them about a look-up. www.scgsgenealogy.com scgs@keyconnect.com
The TVA records of grave removals and dam construction have been sent to the Southern Branch of the National Archives in College Park, GA. If you want to see them, it is best is you let them know you are coming beforehand. Lynda W.
Cindy, This sounds like a source other than the two published volumes of Norris Dam Cemetery and Grave Removals by TVA which includes a small number of Grainger County cemeteries. I will provide a full citation on that book Friday. Can you provide a title, author, or more information to help me identify this book on Cherokee Dam? I would like to order a copy.
