    3. Last week I posted the fact that the library does NOT have the staff to do lookups. They work behind the main desk. The genealogy information is in a separate room. They are not genealogists but are very helpful when you ask them about questions such as loading the microfilm reader. They also sell materials for the Hamblen County genealogy society which I think is beyond their job description. Lynda

However, I do think I can answer your question. Tennessee like our states in the midwest started registering births and deaths pretty late. However, the larger cities would have vital records earlier (this is common in many states and something the researcher should be aware of). Grainger County is of course a rural area. :( I hink you will find the information on the webpage below quite helpful. It is part of the Tennessee Library and Archives website. http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/vital3.htm Gail in MO > Hello! > Could someone please tell me when they started keeping birth cert. > in Grainger Co. Starnes BM Stephen ADKINS to Rebecca Vandagriff Feb 12, 1835 James Brock BM Are the two Stephens actually the same person? Does anyone know who his parents may have been. Also, Was Martin Cleveland dec's 1843 the brother or father of Nancy Cleveland who married Jacob Beeler? Thanks, Betty

    1. [TNGRAING-L] Sunderland Cemetery
    2. mcginnis
    3. Gail, certainly glad the cemetery books have been helpful in you research, Sunderland Cemetery is about 5 miles west of Morristown on West Andrew Johnson Highway or Highway 11-E. Hwy 11-E goes from Morristown to Jefferson City and the cemetery is a few miles before you cross the Hamblen-Jefferson County line. I am not sure if Andrew's grave is marked. The information I gave you was from one of the Hamblen County Cemetery books and that information could have been taken from another source, as we also used the Cherokee Lake removal information.. 3. Hi, I have been told that there is a Grainger Co record titled "Inventories of Estates and Wills, November 1833 - February 1839. Apparently, the 15 August 1835 entry concerns the estate settlement of my ancestor, Peter Hamilton. Does anyone have access to this book or know how I could get a copy of this will? Your help is greatly appreciated. Becky millet@fbtc.net
