I for one am so glad that somebody has finally come forward to tell us that most of Grainger County records are on microfilm and where we can go to view them. Also that an effort has been made to find a place to house the old records. Maybe all of us over eager researchers should find the address for the commissioners and write them instead of aiming our hostility at each other. I know since I have been a target. Betty Webb
Hi, Are you the E. C. Greenlee that lived next to the High School? If so I was you neighbor and my older sister was in your class. I'm not sure if there any books left if so they will be at the Rutledge Bank or the Library. I will check tomorrow. Mary Antrican Jones
Your experience was certainly different than mine. I had nothing except very accommodating service. She even helped me locate an individual living in the area whom I had no idea how to find. The library was also well lit when I was there and when the individual I was trying to locate came to the library we were offered a table, chairs and a place to discuss our family history. Strange how different individuals can have different experiences in the same location. Maybe, its the way we approach them. Carolyn

I commend you for trying to get records there and equipment so that patrons can have access to them. First thing that you need to do is get a Librarian that will tell patrons what is available. I visited there a few weeks ago and was told, ' what we have is in the back corner, help yourself'. After that we were on our own. I asked several questions and was given very short or no answer at all. I searched everything I found, back in the corner, in the dark, and did not find what I was looking for. The Librarian was too interested in playing solitaire on the computer to answer questions. I didn't learn that there was a Family History book that was in print until I started to leave and saw it lying on the counter. There was not one on the Library shelf. I left feeling very frustrated. It would also help if someone could get the genealogy materials out into the light, and a little more accessable to the public. Thank you for listening to my gripes. I am just not accoustomed to that kind of attitude from a librarian. Regards, Margaret Long Mabrey Hancock co list owner --part1_1d2ba96.24edf9ee_boundary--

One of the questions often asked on genealogy email lists is "Where an I find that book?". Because of this, I am developing a site where societies and individuals can list publications for sale as well as links to the society's web site. GeneaSearch.com will provide a central point for users to look for books they want to purchase. Users are invited to add their favorite links to help other researchers, as well as to add their own sites. The goal is to make an interactive resource for assisting in online and offline research. I would like to invite you to list your society on our list of societies and to list any publications and any links you would care to add. You can add them directly on the GeneaSearch.com site. The address is: http://www.geneasearch.com By the way, GeneaSearch is genealogy + research. Thanks, Donna
I am sorry I ment to answer the person about the Grainger Marriages, but think I sent it into the list. Sandy

The Grainger County Library in Rutledge, Tenn. now has a Canon Microfilm Reader and Printer with a Coin Meter so all you genealogy researchers can copy records that are on microfilm in the library. The Grainger County Heritage Book Committee came together more than two years ago merely as acquaintances with Graninger County roots and certainly with no plans of it becoming a money making project. What evolved was the publication of "Grainger County, Tenn. and Its People, 1796-1998". The sales of the book were overwhelming and we accrued a sizeable profit. As we worked with the people who submitted articles, we became aware of the condition of the records in our own county. It was a unanimous decision of the committee to help the people with "roots" here to access the records. In December 1998, we made a proposal to the city of Rutledge to use space in the Nance House for a library of county records using our money to aid in that project. To this date we do not know the status of that proposal. However, we made the decision to go ahead and purchase the Microfilm Reader and Printer as a part of this project for the Rutledge Library. This equipment will enable all interested people and genealogist to both view and print copies of county records on film in the library. Most of the records that are in the old school building are on microfilm in the library - Deaths, Deeds, Marriages, Court Records, etc. Library hours are Monday 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM, Wednesday and Friday 9:00 - 5:00 PM. The Court House in Rutledge is closed Wednesday afternoons. We hope you continue to enjoy the book and now the access to more of the County Records by using this equipment. The Grainger County Heritage Book Committee Louise Murphy, Sec./Treas.
Thanks for your post. Please let me know about the book! Linda

List:-),, I am John Linkes from Kentucky. I am "New" to this list & haven't done much posting,,, but beginning to learn its very valuable to ones doing research in a certain area. I would like to know if there is anyone doing research on the WOLLARD/WOOLARD family of East Tennessee, mainly Jefferson & Grainger Co.?? This line ties into my LINKES/LINKOUS line thru my g.g.grandfather (Gibson M. Lincus/Linkes) 1/2 sister Mary "Mollie" Linkus/Linkous. I have just recently been in contact with my 4th cousin, Lynn Rockcastle, who descends from Mary "Mollie" Linkus/Linkous and who was able to give me what "little" info. I have on the WOLLARD line. Here is a link to my home page <A HREF="http://members.tripod.com/~KYLINKY/index.html">Linkes/Linkous Family History Info.</A> where you can get more details of how it all ties together,, but I will also give a little outline here: John Barnett Linkous (b.1822) 1st married Mary Ann HOUSEWRIGHT (b.1821)on Nov.16,1846 in Hawkins Co. TN and settled in Rutledge, Grainger Co. TN. They had one child: Gibson M.(b.1851). Mary Ann died soon after Gibson was born,,, & Gibson ran away from home at abt. the age of 11yrs old to Rogersville, where his Housewright cousin lived. John Barnett LINKOUS remarried 2nd (maybe his 3rd) to Julia L.STALLARD on Sept.1, 1873 in Hawkins Co.TN and they resettled in Blaine Crossroads, Grainger Co.TN and had Mary "Mollie" and maybe 5 other unknown children. Mary "Mollie" Linkus/Linkous married Thomas Daniel WOLLARD(b.abt.1860-66 his parents are Nicholas Wollard & Martha Jane "surname unknown") about 1900 and later settled in Jefferson Co. TN. They had the following children: William "Willie", Milton, Lillie Mae, & Laura Mae. If there is anyone on the list that may have a connection, I would be very grateful to hear from you:-)) Thanks for your time,, John Linkes. researching: Linkes/Linkous, Housewright, Stallard, Wollard/Woolard in Grainger Co.TN --part1_118d0865.24eb8ad6_boundary--
