Hi all! Does anyone have Grogans? I was just looking at a site featured in the rootsweb review. It is a site where the "owner" has "lost" family memorabilia. She has a picture of a Mr. and Mrs. Grogan Morristown TN. See: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/7741/photo.html Bye for Now, Gail

Nancy, Garron here, I saw your msg on Grainger list. Do you have any info on the Frye cemetery or any info on those buried there? I have Fry ancestors, my mom's maiden name, and her ancestors came from Grainger 1882 to MO. Do you know anything about a man Pleasant Thornburg Fry, had brother John Morgan Fry, their father Joe Fry?. Both ended up in Stella, Newton Co, MO. Talk at ya later, GW. -----Original Message----- From: Tenc@aol.com <Tenc@aol.com> To: TNGRAING-L@rootsweb.com <TNGRAING-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, October 25, 1999 3:20 AM Subject: [TNGRAING-L] Wm Younger HOPSON >Is anyone researching or even vaguely related to William Younger Hopson and >his wife Julia Ritter, both born 1832? Is anyone researching or even vaguely related to William Younger Hopson and his wife Julia Ritter, both born 1832? In 1870 in Grainger County they were living in the household of Richard Hopson, who was Wm.'s father, and his 2nd wife Hannah Damewood Ritter, who was Julia's mother. They are buried in the Frye Cemetery on Dutch Valley Rd in Grainger County. I have some interesting stories about this couple and much info about the Hopson line.
I am looking for Rachel (Rachael?) Arwine and John R. Hackney. Have not been able to confirm much about them. John R. was my ggg gf and died in 1872 in Bedford, IN. I have papers confirming that. I believe John and Rachel were married in Campbell Co. TN around 1817. I think that Rachel was the daughter of John Arwine Jr. and Eva Gooden and was born in Grainger Co. TN around 1800. The Arwine tree on the familytreemaker web site shows John Arwine Jr. and Eva Gooden only having 4 children, none or which is Rachel but a family member has contacted me and says he believes that there were really 8 children. John R. and Rachel show up in the 1850 Brown Co. IN census and John remarrys in 1854 and Rachel just seems to disappear. She probably died but she may have received a divorce. I can't find any confirmation of either. Rachel's brother and other family members including her two sons, Benjamin and James, migrated to Tarrant Co. TX in later years. I know that there is an A! RWINE cemetery in Tarrant Co. but I don't believe Rachel is buried there nor is there any confirmation that Benjamine and James were her sons on their gravestones. John R. Hackney shows up in the 1850 Brown Co. IN census and it says that he was from TN. He later ends up in Lawrence Co IN which is where he died. His second marriage was to Mary Jane Elisabeth Rogers on 12/1/1854 in Brown Co. I know there were alot of Hackneys in TN about the time that John was born, probably around 1800. There were alot of John Hackneys around at that time but everything I find on him, he has attached his middle initial. I would also like help in finding his parentage. Thanks for any help. Ken Hackney
I thank you for your reply, My Martha Mayes was born Tennessee in they year of 1799 or 1800, he husband William Daniel was born 1798, Henry county, Va. he married her in 1821, Grainger county, I am almost certain that William 's father was Edward Daniel, William and his family left Grainger in or around 1846-1848 and came to Benton county, Ark. I find William and his wife Martha on the 1850 census, Benton county, with children Martha, Rachell, William, Mary and James. They had another son that I know about that was John Daniel, who was born 1823, he married Mary Anna Jeffreys in 1842, she was the daughter of Marmaduke Norfleet Jeffreys and Hannah Louise Hill, they two also came to Ark. Benton county, John and Mary Annah stayed in Benton, where they both died there,. I don't know where Willam and Martha went, I have heard Mo. but not for certain,Thanks Vickie The Farm wrote: > I have 5 Martha Mayes' in the Vineyard line born between > 1803-1873....probably have over 30 Mayes' in all. Gail, it may not seem like much but it does help.. i have been trying to figure out that name for a year. I thought, maybe, because the family was listed below James & Martha Davis, the wife's name might be Azariah/ Azara Davis. Thanks, Mary
I need someone to look up a listing on the 1870 Grainger Co., TN. Census (I have page 8-4th District) I am interested in the family below James & Martha Davis. I am thinking the wife of John M ?- age 32 & (can't make it out) is a daughter of the above James & Martha Davis. Any help with the last name of John M. ? would be appreciated. Mary
Looks like: John M. Lowe 32 Farmer Born: Tennessee Angae L. Lowe 23 Born: Tennessee 1880 family that matches above: Jno. M. Lowe 42 Angeline L. 33 Frank E. 8 Walter G. 6 Fred 4 Jos. H. 2 A. F. 40 A marriage match up would appear to be: John M. Lowe to Angeline L. Godwin 1 June 1866 My husband descends from the Moody/Godwin line. His great, great uncle is the family above John Lowe in the 1870 census (Thomas Benton Moody). Gail in Moreno Valley, Ca.
Dedman and Nancy Mallicoat evidently had a dau. named Elizabeth Betsy Mallicoat, b. Jan. 1, 1847. That's the only information I've found about her and, as nearly as I can tell, it's not documented. Does anyone out there know anything more about Elizabeth? My main interest is, who did she marry? Any information greatly appreciated. Judy
Hi Karen, (and everybody else <smile>) I just checked the website which I bookmarked a long time ago. Luckily my bookmark still works. However, there doesn't seem to have been a great deal of progress. These things apparently take a while which is understandable. The black troops have been up for awhile and I expected there would be more databases by now, but this IS a massive project. http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System Bye for Now Gail in MO > Has anyone heard lately the current status of the Civil War soldiers lists > that the National Parks System, with volunteers from various states & the LDS > Church were putting together? Has anyone heard lately the current status of the Civil War soldiers lists that the National Parks System, with volunteers from various states & the LDS Church were putting together? There have been rumors it was only going to be accessible at the battlefields, there were other rumors that it was going to be available on-line. Does anybody know anything recent?? Thanks, Karen
I have 2 to mail tomorrow. But I received one on Thurs. and one on Friday. I can't remember who they are from at the moment. They are both down stairs. I would get up and check but I'm having problems getting my kids to bed tonight. If I open my door and go downstairs they would find an excuse to get up again. I'll check in the morning and get back to you. They will go out on Tuesday. Tomorrow is a holiday so they will be mailed on Tues. I'll let you know if it's one of your. Thanks. Mickey
Micky, I mailed you a check and request for the first book about 2 weeks ago. Can you let me know when to expect the info. Veronica
