    1. [TNGRAING-L] DALTON and DOTSON
    2. Bill, I believe this is how I found Mary Polly DALTON. I went to FamilySearch.com and was looking for my Margaret DOTSON who married Thomas NASH. I found her and then her parents, Samuel Jr. DOTSON and Mary Polly DALTON (film #1985544) marriage about 1790 in Grainger, TN. Film #1985750 has Margaret DOTSON as being born about 1817 to parents Samuel Jr DODSON and Mary Polly DALTON. Interesting how on this film the childs surname is spelled differently. I have not seen these films personally but someday....... Cindy

    1. [TNGRAING-L] Early Marriages: Bowers(Bowen?)/Moody & Bowers/Arnwine
    2. Robert Strong
    3. Kennerly's compilation of Grainger Co. marriages list three early marriages of interest to me: Andrew BOWEN to Katherine HOWETH, 26 Aug 1816 Reece BOWERS to Mary MOODY, 4 Apr 1825 John BOWERS to Cloe ARNWINE, 11 Mar 1829. Andrew BOWEN was in fact Andrew BOWERS, my 2nd great grandfather. I am interested in the other two marriages for what they might reveal about the early Grainger Co. BOWERS family. The BOWERS/MOODY marriage appears to be a red herring. Just as my Andrew was mistakenly transcribed as a Bowen, so it seems that Reece Bowen was mistakenly transcribed as a Bowers. Is there a Bowen researcher on the list who can confirm this? John BOWERS seems the most likely to be a relative of Andrew BOWERS, since Andrew served as the bondsman for his wedding. Is there an ARNWINE researcher on the list who has any information about John BOWERS and Cloe ARNWINE? Robert Strong

    1. RE: [TNGRAING-L] Roll Call - Jennings
    2. Ann Hill
    3. Hi, I am fairly new to the list and am looking for the ancestors (especially parents) of Hezekiah Jennings, b. in VA or NC about 1775 and married to Sarah Johnston. He died in 1806. I connect to Hezekiah through their son, Anderson Jennings. I am also trying to figure out how all the early Jennings (born mostly in the 1700s) in Claiborne link up - Hezekiah, Royal, Obediah, Edward Ned, Robert, Joseph (on lots of deeds), John Sterling and William(on the early deeds), Dickerson and Isham, to name a few. :) I am also directly related to John Sterling and know his descendants. I am also looking for a Betsy Webster, whose daughter married an early Lebow (Jack). This family of Jennings was supposed to be the earliest to arrive in Claiborne County, along with the Lebows. Did any of these Jennings come in from Wilson County as well? Did any of them leave for Warren County? Or Kentucky? Anyway, anyone want to share their theories? Thanks. Ann Hill At any rate, it seems to be a lifetime puzzle - and each little clue makes it all the more interesting.

    2. I have a John H. TATE that was bondsman for the marriage of my ancestors Alexander SIMS and Barbara COTNER 1813 Grainger Co, TN. Wonder if the middle initial is correct or could that be John K. TATE who married Rachel CARMICHAEL 1816 Grainger Co, TN. The reason I question this is because John K. TATE's brother David TATE married Mary CHAMBERLAIN MASSENGILL 1816 Grainger Co, TN. Mary's first husband was Solomon MASSENGILL. Solomon was a witness to Peter COTNER' will in 1808 and his brother, Robert MASSENGILL, was an executor of the will. Peter COTNER was the father of Barbara who married Alexander SIMS. Looking for a possible family connection between TATE/MASSENGILL to COTNER/SIMS family. Does anyone have information about John H. TATE or if he was John K. TATE? Thank you. Vicki

    2. Martha, I am researching the Arnwine family in Grainger County. It seems that the Arnwine men liked the Dyer women. Elijah Arnwine married Elizabeth Dyer July 9, 1848; John Arnwine married Nancy Dyer January 16, 1843; and William Arnwine married Mary Dyer December 26, 1853. My husband's family descends from Elijah and Elizabeth.
