    1. Re: [TNGRAING-L] Roll Call--MONROE, BRYAN/BRYANT,HILL
    2. Hi Earlene, When looking at what I had posted, I realized it did look like Margaret was the daught of Joseph and Elisabeth Hill. She is the daughter of Joseph Bryan/Bryant and Elisabeth nee Hill. I do not have any info on the Hill's except for the name of Elisabeth. I am just now starting to really research the Hill and Bryan/Bryant names. I have a lot of info on the Monroes, thanks to you and the other Monroe searchers---which I really appreciate. I will keep you in mind while researching the Hills and if I come across anything I will be sure and let you know. Being from the same area, and with the Monroes and all, there could be a possibility that we could be researching the same Hill family. Happy New Year!!! Christine Adams Richland,MS

    2. James Slone
    3. Betty, Thanks so much! Wade ROACH was my first wife's (now deceased) father, and I had virtually nothing on that line to pass on to our children. One comment: according to my understanding, Ethel ROACH died sometime in the 1930's or 40's. It was Effie ROACH who lived until the 1980's, and I believe she lived until 1988 -- not sure. Also, it was Effie who married James HOLT. Ethel married a man named HUSKEY -- don't know his first name. By the way, my brother-in-law, James "Toney" ROACH, moved to Conroe, TX in the 1950's or 1960's, then to Spring, TX. He passed away a couple of years ago, but left a couple of daughters in the area. Is that anywhere near you? I realize TX is a big state, but thought I'd ask... Thanks again -- this is really great! Jim Slone

    2. Ross Cameron
    3. To add to my Roll Call data, here is the Lebow (Lebo, Leabo) family primary names and collateral surnames followed by the Lebow "story." They started out in Hawkins County, but spent many years in Grainger. Primary names and collateral surnames: Lebow, John (1761-1840] Gray, Catherine (1767-1847) mar. Lebow collateral surnames of Stubblefield, Gray, Bassett, Henderson, Hale, Johnson, Sullenbarger, Rice, Harris, Antrican, and Wolf Lebow, Jacob W. (1796-1879) Henderson, Louisa (1804-1880) mar. Lebow Lebow, Harriet Rachel (1823-1907) mar. Moore Moore, John Williams (1815-1895) Some of John Williams Moore's relatives also moved from Hawkins Co. to Grainger Co. Mooresburg is named for his uncle Hugh, the first postmaster there. ********appended file begins here******** John and Catherine (Gray) Lebow John Lebow was an early settler in Hawkins county, Tennessee. He is believed by many to be the John Adam Lebo who was born 4 October 1761 in Berks county, Pennsylvania, the son of Isaac and Sabina Lebow. Isaac Lebow was born about 1736 in Reading, Berks county, Pennsylvania. He was the son of John Abraham Lebo, born in 1708 in the Palantine and died in 1775 in Germany township, Adams county, Pennsylvania, and Anna Maria Schreiver, born 1 April 1710 in Europe, and died 8 May 1801 in Silver Run, Carroll county, Maryland. John Abraham Lebo was the son of John Lebo, the immigrant, who was born about 1683 in Alsace and died in May 1759 in Reading, Berks county, Pennsylvania, and Judith Hanotiaux, who was born in London, England. John married Catherine Gray, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Gray, who was born 1 November 1767. They had eleven children: John, born about 1782-84; Joseph, born about 1785, who married 17 November 1810, in Grainger county, Tennessee, to Nancy Stubblefield; Mary "Polly," born about 1790, who married 24 October 1811, in Grainger county to William Gray; Phoebe, born 2 January 1793, who married 20 September 1814, in Grainger county to Spencer Bassett, and died 27 March 1859; Isaac, born about 1794-1795, who married 4 December 1827, in Grainger county to Sarah Gray, the daughter of Robert Gray, and died in 1882 in Hawkins county; Jacob W., born 16 March 1796 [more below]; Lucinda, born about 1797-1799; Martha, born August 180?; Louisa, born 21 November 1807, who married 25 October 1819, in Grainger county to Sanford Johnson, the son of Thomas Johnson and Martha Hutcheson, who was born 22 November 1792, in Hawkins county, and died 24 December 1879, in Hawkins county; Lucretia, w! ho married 29 October 1840, in Grainger county to Albert Sullenbarger; and Sarah, who married 28 September 1842, in Grainger county to John Rice, Sr., and died in 1849. John Lebow was one of those men whom Governor John Sevier commissioned an ensign in the Hawkins County Regiment, on 15 August 1797. John and his young family moved a short distance across the county line into Grainger county, Tennessee, by 1810. John Lebow died 17 March 1840, in Grainger county, Tennessee and was buried in Meadow Branch Cemetery there. Catherine Lebow died 16 December 1847, also in Grainger county and was buried beside John at Meadow Branch Cemetery. Jacob W. Lebow, my great, great, great, great grandfather, married 20 August 1821, in Grainger county to Louisa Henderson. Louisa, the daughter of John Henderson and Rhoda Hale, was born 3 January 1804, in Claiborne county. Claiborne county was formed from land formerly in Hawkins and Grainger counties only three years earlier and that part of Grainger taken from Hawkins a few years before that, so the Henderson family may be Hawkins county pioneers, too. Jacob and Louisa left Grainger county in 1829 and moved to Putnam county, Indiana. After only seven years there, they moved on to southwest Missouri. They lived first for two years near Springfield, Greene county, Missouri, but in 1838 moved a little further west to the area that would become Lawrence county, Missouri in 1845. Here Jacob died on 25 February 1879. He was buried in Williams Cemetery, near Mount Vernon. Louisa died there, too, on 22 November 1880 and was buried beside Jacob at Williams Cemetery. Jacob and Louisa had twelve children, the four oldest born in Tennessee, the next two in Indiana, and the six youngest in Missouri: Harriet Rachel, born 19 June 1823; Amanda S. C., born 28 January 1824; John R. H., born 25 December 1827; Catherine Rhoda, born about 1829; Lucenna Clorinza "Cenie," born 25 October 1832; Jacob W. Harriet Rachel Lebow married 25 August 1840, in that part of Barry county, Missouri, which would soon become Lawrence county, to John Williams Moore, the son of John Moore and Elizabeth Williams. John Williams Moore was born 12 February 1815, in Hawkins county. They had no doubt known each other in Hawkins county before both settled in the same area in Missouri in 1838. John Williams and Harriet Rachel (Lebow) Moore had twelve children, ten of whom lived to adulthood and married: Ximera Malvina, born 10 July 1841; Gallahugh Blackburn ?Black,? born 26 January 1843; Louisa Elizabeth, born 18 December 1844, who died young; Jacob Greenfield, born 7 March 1846; John Williams, Jr., born 19 February 1848; Mary Ann Tennessee, born 8 March 1850; Martha Louise, born 8 April 1852; George Marion, born 13 August 1854; James Logan, born 10 October 1856; Albert Alcer (or Anderson), born 13 December 1860; Missouri, born about 1862 or 1863, who died young; and William Grant, born 31 Augus! t 1864. John Williams Moore died 24 December 1895, at his home near Mount Vernon, Lawrence county, and was buried at nearby Williams Cemetery. Harriet died there on 22 September 1907, and was buried beside her husband. Amanda S. C. Lebow married about 1842-1843 to Squire Asbury Gardner, who was born 16 December 1814, in Kentucky. Lebow married 18 Jul 1850, in Lawrence county, to Mary Jane Gullett, the daughter of John Gullett and Letha Moore Brackeen, born about 1832 in Tennessee. He and Catherine Rhoda had six children: John S., Jacob Lebow, George Washington, Joseph Lafayette, Harvey Madison, and an unnamed infant. She died by 1862 but her burial place is unknown. 1. Re: [TNGRAING-L] - Lee, Turley, Taylor & DEADERICK families
    2. Blakley
    3. Hi Ross, Thanks for the reply. DEADERICK was a surname that was listed on a marriage lisc. for one of my TRAVIS family. I believe that it may have been a William Deaderick but I don't have that info handy at the moment. I am trying to narrow in on a possible location that my TRAVIS family may have came from before East TN. I thought that finding this Deaderick family may help. Often times one who signs as witness on a marriage lisc. may be somehow be related thru either the bride or the groom. It's a long shot but it's all that I have at the moment. Thanks for any help! I thought there might be a connection to the Deaderick family and researched some on that several (20+) years ago and found nothing. I will check my files to see what I have on them. I believe there was an article on the Deaderick family in John Bennett Bodie or another series of books on Southern Families. > > Ross > > >>> "Blakley" <blakley3@earthlink.net> 01/04/00 02:59PM >>> > Ross, > I see that you have a William Deaderick LEE in your file. 3. Hi Folks, I'm new to the list. Searching for info concerning John Alexander ROACH m. Hattie Pearl BIDDLE abt 1906. Their children included Ethel, Effie, Johnny and Wade Hansford ROACH. I have no other info on John Alexander ROACH, and would very much like to trace that line. Thanks, Jim Slone Lynn Haven, FL

    2. Here's a bit of additional information from Shirley ROACH CARPENTER that was sent to me several years ago by someone working at the FHC. "The Roach relation (Shirley ROACH CARPENTER) that I have been collecting this information for...... ...I take it to her once a week since she is not on line and we no longer have e-mail at the FHC that I help out with on Thursday's!!! ""I am looking for anything on my Grandpa and Grandma. John Alexander Roach born June 28, 1854 died Dec 7, 1915. [Who were his brothers and sisters?} Sintha Aveline Fralix born Jan 1, 1859 died Mar 27, 1901. [I want the names of their children, where they were born, and where they were buried.] My dad, Clyde Alexander Roach was one of these children. There was also a 2nd marriage or relationship for John Alexander Roach to/with Hattie Biddle, a 13 year old. **[LCC: oral family history says that this caused a split in the family and the result was loss of contact. I think that Shirley is wondering if she has family resulting from this union.]** I would like to find out about the 1st marriage for my dad, Clyde Alexander Roach to Subrinia (Seperio)? ** [LCC: Spelling by way Shirley is saying it would be Subrinia - correct spelling is needed]. And find my dad and mom's (Virgie K. Cope) marriage records. They had 6 children Shirley ROACH CARPENTER, Paul K. Roach, Harald E. Roach, Clyde Jr Roach, Mary E. Roach, and Susan A. Roach.""

    1. Re: [TNGRAING-L] Roll Call--MONROE, BRYAN/BRYANT,HILL
    2. Christine, We've corresponded abut the MONROE's before, but I never knew you had HILL's in your family, too.Do you know any more about your Margaret HILL? My HILL is Fereby (Phoebe) B. 1816 in Grainger, Mar. in 1838 to Robert (Robin) ADKINS. His parents were Lewis ADKINS and Elizabeth MONROE. Elizabeth is the oldest sister of Marc MONROE. My husband descends from both the ADKINS-MONROE, and Marc MONROE and Nancy DAVIS. We're on vacation with our daughter's family in Tacoma Washington right now, but will be home about Jan 15. Let me know. Seems like there should be a connection of our HILL's, doesn't it? Thanks Good Hunting and Happy New Year. Earlene Hutsell OK1WE1@aol.com

    3. Hello again, Mary [and any of you other Stubblefield researchers], I guess that it has been almost three years now since we spoke on the phone about the Grainger County Heritage book and the Antrican and McCoy [Harden Cameron's second wife was a McCoy] families and the Moores, too. As you may remember, Louise Murphy and I have found out that she and I are Moore cousins after all. I think that I may have found a descendant of the Lebow line which was connected to the Antricans, but have not had time to follow up on it. I don't remember that we had talked about the Stubblefields. Do you or any other Stubblefield researchers know the parents or family of Minerva Stubblefield, born ca. 1821, who married Wilson Cameron, 16 Nov. 1842 in Grainger County? She died 19 Sep 1895, and is buried with him at Shiloh [M. E. Church] in Rutledge. I also have a connection to the Mayes family through the second wife of my g-g-grandfather James Cameron, Rachel (Grove) Dodson, born ca. 1830, the widow of James Dodson and the daughter of Reuben Grove and Nancy Mayes. Ross Cameron >>> <HLJMLJ@aol.com> 01/03/00 10:51PM >>> I am researching the names of Antrican, Anderkin, Antriken, Yount, Mayes/Mays,Stubblefield, and Manning in Grainger, Hawkins and Hancock Counties. Thanks Mary

    3. Hi, Jim - I'm always happy to know that some little scrap I have may help someone else find what they are looking for. It's almost as much fun to me as finding something about my own line! I'll look into my stuff again and see if I made a mistake when putting info into the computer. Thanks for this info! I certainly don't want to pass anything along that may not be correct "to the best of my knowledge and belief." I live in South-Central Texas, about 15 miles South of Austin and 15 miles North of San Marcos, about 6 miles East of I-35 at a place that used to be called Goforth. There's no town there now, but my mother, a Schmidt, grew up only a few miles away. This is in Hays County. Conroe is between Houston and Lufkin on I-45, and is about a 3 1/2 or 4-hour drive away. Off-hand, I don't recall where Spring is. My good road map is in the car, and as you may guess from my typing, I'm in no shape to go out there to get it! I have a researcher friend down at Conroe, so if you want me to see if I can find out anything about the daughters around there, give me some particulars and I'll see if I can put you in contact. Good luck on your research, and I'd really appreciate updated info on your line of this family. If I can help you further, just give a holler. 1. Re: [TNGRAING-L] ROACH- CLEVENGER
    2. Debbie, I don't have the Roach you mentioned, although I am not very far in my research. Our Clevenger connection is through Henrietta (?) Clevenger who married Eckie Hale Clowers. I have no other information yet on them. Although, I need to find where they are buried which shouldn't be too hard. Let me know if this is your line, although I know this isn't much! Mary Carol

    1. [TNGRAING-L] Roach/McElhaney
    2. Sharon, Unfortunately, I haven't found out anything...with two preschoolers my research is usually the last thing I get to concentrate on. I need to get to our library and do some things. I am hoping to do that this month. I have John Wesley Roach married to Mary Emma McElhaney. I don't have dates or anything; my husband's uncle remembered this. I'm guessing it would have been after 1850 because their son, Marcus Calvin Roach (married Georgia Callie Marie Clowers) was my husband's grandfather. All of these people are buried at Mitchell Springs cemetery and I have pictures of their stones but the pictures are floating around in one of my closets! I know they are there, I just need to find them! Any connection? Mary Carol

    2. Anne, I recently found out my grandfather's 2nd wife was someone named Cliffie Bunch. They were married for a few years in the early twenties. His name was Floyd Lee Brown. But they lived in Bradley County, TN. I have no idea who her family was or where they came from. Mary Carol Roach
