    1. [TNGRAING-L] Records at the old school
    2. Hello, all. Dare I bring this up again? Thought interested parties might like to know that things are being worked on and I have a couple of family members who live in Rutledge still trying to get to the bottom of this mess. The holidays got so busy for all of us that the records business got pushed to the back burner. We are going to try to get the local paper into it and hopefully that will get the word out (up there) better. A lot of the locals honestly don't know about this, for whatever reason. SO, keep your fingers crossed! We'll get those records stored properly yet! Mary Carol Roach Chattanooga, TN

    3. Billie Wyrick Kennerly published two volumes of Grainger County, Tennessee marriages. Volume 1 covered the time period, 1796-1837, and was published in 1964. Volume 2 covered the time period, 1838-1866, and was published in 1968. Ms. Kennerly is now deceased and, I understand, copies of her books are no longer available. 3. Ann, I too am looking for connection to TATE, HAYNES and PATTERSON surnames. The TATE name weaves in and out of my direct TRAVIS & PIERCE lines. My gg-grandfather Calvin BUTLER, first married a woman named Weathly "Adaline" HAYNES on Oct. 03, 1857 and then married Ellen Virginia ROLAND, on Dec. 23, 1868. The name PATTERSON shows up on a marriage bond on one of my TRAVIS family. Sometimes the bondsman happens to be related to either the bride or groom. If you receive any information on those surnames, I would appreciate if you would share. Many Thanks! 3. Ok, thanks anyway Grace. I know about Ralph and Anna Taylor, but believe the actual date was 1828 and that the microfilm transcription is wrong. This remains to be proven however. It's almost as much fun to me as finding something about my own line! I'll look into my stuff again and see if I made a mistake when putting info into the computer. Thanks for this info! I certainly don't want to pass anything along that may not be correct "to the best of my knowledge and belief." I live in South-Central Texas, about 15 miles South of Austin and 15 miles North of San Marcos, about 6 miles East of I-35 at a place that used to be called Goforth. There's no town there now, but my mother, a Schmidt, grew up only a few miles away. This is in Hays County. Conroe is between Houston and Lufkin on I-45, and is about a 3 1/2 or 4-hour drive away. Off-hand, I don't recall where Spring is. My good road map is in the car, and as you may guess from my typing, I'm in no shape to go out there to get it! I have a researcher friend down at Conroe, so if you want me to see if I can find out anything about the daughters around there, give me some particulars and I'll see if I can put you in contact. Good luck on your research, and I'd really appreciate updated info on your line of this family. If I can help you further, just give a holler. 1. Re: [TNGRAING-L] BURCHELL on the Grainger Roll Call
    2. Hi Debbie, I believe we corresponded a few months ago, but I will post my BURCHELL line for the rest of the list also. James Burchell b-ca 1818 moved from Rockingham NC to east Tn between 1830-40 married Catherine (u/k) early 1840's. Children are: 1.George b-1843 2.Elizabeth b-1845 3.Penelope b-1848 4.William b-1850 5.Richard b-1852 6.Eliza b-1855 7.John b-1857 8.Minerva b-1859 married John C. Riggins May 1880 9.Thomas b-1862 10.Samuel b-1863 married Viola Jane Fralix in 1889 (My g-grandparents) 11.Louisa b-1865 married a John Dyer in 1882 Hamblen Co. 12.James b-1867 13.Robert Franlkin b-1870 married Helen Elizabeth(Lizzie) Fralix 1893 in Grainger Co., sister of Viola Jane. The family story is that Samuel was killed in a logging accident between 1900-1905 and that Viola took their 5 children Mae, David, Alice, Laura and Jessie and moved with her parents James Milton Fralix/Martha Watts to Giles Co TN. Several other children of the Fralix's also moved to Giles Co. including Robert Franklin Burchell and Lizzie Fralix, RF and Lizzie were said to have moved on to Texas and were lost track of, I would love to have contact with their descendants. At this time several members of our family have tried to find any information on Samuel and the circumstances surrounding his death but have found no death records or newspaper accounts. We have no idea where he was buried and would appreciate any help in locating any information on him. Is there anyone who might have access to any records that might share some light on this? gaurdianship information or property settlements? I would appreciate any help anyone might offer as to where I might search next. Thank you Debbie for inquiring on the post, you have been very helpful in the past and I look forward to more contact with you in the future. Barbara (Burchell) McCord

Betty - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- If I may step in here a moment. There is a Spring, Tx. located on I45 between Conroe and Houston. Hope this is the Spring you are looking for....It has a wonderful place " Old Town Spring " that has several old homes turned into Antique shops, quaint restaurants etc. Actually as you leave Houston to go to Conroe ( or vice versa ) it is hard to tell you have even left Houston. It is a long stretch of the interstate that has business after business after business. All of the towns just seem to connect from Houston to Conroe. After leaving Conroe on I45 going north toward Dallas/Ft. Worth you finally reach some open highway with trees etc. Rebecca Please visit my website: http://community.webtv.net/AmericafayeII/Reflections0

    3. Debbie, The name Deaderick has been passed down to the current generation. I thought there might be a connection to the Deaderick family and researched some on that several (20+) years ago and found nothing. I will check my files to see what I have on them. 2. The only Comer's I have in my family are Madison (possibly Nathaniel as middle name) Comer who married Mary "Polly" Sharp in 1839, and his daughter Emily Catherine who was born in 1840 & married Sylvester "Wes" Atkins. I know there are others out there, but don't know if or how they may tie into Madison's family. Madison disappeared by 1850--left, died, I don't know...but he wasn't with the family. For all the information I have about him, he may have been beamed down by Scottie, and then back up. Karen

    2. James and Catherine (King) Blair , their children, including Robert Blair, who married Mary (Polly) Bean. They all moved to Eastern TN, Hawkins Co, later Grainger, right after the Rev. War, and some of them moved to Indiana ca 1815. And what became of the other Blairs in Grainger Co. after 1815? So what happened to all of them in those 35 years? And oh my, who were Polly Beans parents?? Sue
