    3. This is interesting. Comfort K. Tate was born in 1863 and so far as I know, didn't live to adulthood. Catherine A. Tate and M.J. Tate were both born 1859, and apparently were twins. M. J. is noted as being female but, when that's all one sees, could be easily mistaken for being a male. It could be that a single stone was erected for the two sisters. I don't know what happened to Catherine A. or to M.J. 3. There is also a (Mr.) TATE and a Comfort K. TATE (apparently husband and wife as it is a single headstone) that are buried in the Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery near Talbott, TN. in Hamblen Co. The headstone bearly shows up in the back ground of a photo that I took of one of my TRAVIS relatives in this cemetery two years ago & before I knew what I was really doing. <GBG>) . My TRAVIS family apparently had close contact with many of the folks listed in the information below. I have an Elizabeth TRAVIS who had a child out of wed lock and the father was supposedly the Samuel N. TATE listed below (who's wife was named Elizabeth .) I have copies of the court records from 1857. Samuel N. TATE was a doctor in Grainger Co. This case was postponed three times and before the case actually went to trial.....my Elizabeth and the baby died. Elizabeth's father Philip TRAVIS was awarded $6 for medical costs of the child. Elizabeth TRAVIS had a brother named John and he is listed on the 1850 Grainger Co., census as living in the home of David Tate and Mary Chamberlain Tate?. (I believe this one is correct...I am doing this by memory...would need to check my records for sure). I believe that it also has CARDWELLS living in the same house or nearby? My gg-grandfather was named David Tate TRAVIS. His brother William H. TRAVIS and his wife were allowed a "life estate" to live renet free on property owned by William B. TATE Sr. on the old CHURCHMAN farm that William B., TATE SR. purchased from one "CHURCHMAN". This is according to TATE Sr.'s Will, (of which I have a copy.) So, if anyone connects to any of the folks listed below...most likely you will come across some TRAVIS info. If so, I would GREATLY appreciate if you would please keep me in mind. 1. Re: [TNGRAING-L] Bunch family
    2. Mary-- Thanks for responding to my query about Grainger Co. Bunches. I don't have much information on any recent Bunch families in Tennessee (by recent, I mean anything after about 1850!) My line moved on to Iowa and other states. If you are interested in pursuing that line, you might want to join the Bunch-L mail list and see if anyone out there has ties to your Bunch. 3. Hi Jessie My Owens descendents from Grainger County Tennessee between 1830's to 1880's married into the Roach and Mallicoat lines. Your listing on Wortham Joyce married Mary Elizabeth ( wife of Samuel PM Roach) is of great interest. My research indicates that Eliza J Mallicoat, The daughter of Hamilton and Susan Roach Mallicoat married Thomas Wartham (Joice) Joyce in Grainger Co. Tennessee 7 Sept 1865. In the 1880 Federal Census, Grainger County 2nd. Civil District there is a listing is for: Wartham Joice age 35 farmer Eliza J. age 34 wife John James age14 son Rufus W age9 son Samuel R age 1 son Susan Nance age60 mother-in-law Widowed Susan Nance is Susan Roach who married Hamilton Mallicoat who died in the 1850's. Then Susan Mallicoat married C. C. Nance who died in the 1870's. Susan Roach Mallicoat Nance was living with her daughter Eliza J. and her husband Thomas Wartham Joyce in the 1880 Federal Census. Susan Nance moved to Greene County Missouri in the early 1880's and lived with her son in law and daughter Henry and Margaret Owens. Do you believe this could be the Wartham Joyce you have listed in your email? ----- Original Message ----- ) From: "Jessie Coffey" <JRCoffey@worldnet.att.net> To: <TNGRAING-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 07, 2000 9:36 PM Subject: [TNGRAING-L] Roll Call > Hi All, > > Here are some of my names from the Grainger County area: > > COFFEY - Benjamin (b.1747), John (b.1776), Ausburn (b. 1805), James Madison (b. 1834) > DALTON - Reuben, Enos, Matilda (wife of Ausburn Coffey) > JOYCE - Wortham, Mary Elizabeth (wife of Samuel PM Roach) > MCCoy - Archibald (or David), Gemima > ROACH - William Henry (b.1801), Samuel Plesant Miles (b. 1825) > RUCKER - Elizabeth (wife of John Coffey) > WOLFE - John, Adam (married Gemima McCoy) > > There are probably a few others I haven't listed, I typed these from memory. > I welcome any contact regarding the individuals above or other individuals connected to the ones above. > > Any new cousins out there ? > Look forward to hearing from you. > > Jessie Coffey > >
