Diana, Did I understand your correctly that you will do free lookups? If so, I sure would appreciate you looking up this believed Grainger County marriage: Larken Mallicoat/ Malicoat/ Malicoate/Malicote born 1795 TN. married Mary "Polly" ? Their first child was born in 1818. Believe their marriage took place in Grainger, they moved onto Campbell Co., TN., but marriage most likely Grainger. Thank you very much for all your help. Jean Brand Fresno CA
Dear group- I object to someone using this list to sell genealogy materials. Even if some of you don't mind, this list is not intended for one selling their services. The second reason I object is that many people on this list are not aware that there are printed marriages books in existence that are more detailed than Mickey's and and there is a microfilm that can be ordered free from the TN library and the FHC. And I am also dismayed that the pages in each book are so few that all the pages could be combined into one book for a reasonal price. Everyone has the choice of what they do and how they spend their money but to help out those that really need the information and would rather not buy a book, I will do look ups for you FOR FREE! for your Grainger marriages. I will be happy to do it because so many people have helped me the same way with my research. And that is the way it is done on lists like this and in the genealogical world. The most people usually asked for the postage. Diana
Hello Melissa and Ken, It's always great to see a connection! Unfortunately, I'm not doing very well. Do you have any Shelton's mentioned in your Noe or Hodge lines? First, Talitha has to be the daughter of my G-G-G-mother Rachel that I've never been able to find. Second, It's nice to know that Rachel had a husband. I am new to this list. I am researching John Williams,b. 27 Dec. 1803 in VA. and Edith(Eda, Edey) Stewart b. 15 Jul. 1808 in N.C. m. 5 May, 1825 in Grainger Co. TN. Their children that were born in TN. were Thomas,b. 3 Feb. 1826, Belinda, b.6 Jan. 1828. They had many other children but there is confusion as to whether they were born in TN or KY. Those children are: William, Henry, Garland, Matilda, Lucinda, Elizabeth, John. They moved to Pulaski Co. MO. sometime in the 1840's. If you have any info on this family I would be happy to share my info. Shirley in Texas e-mail: swells@tstar.net

Shirley, Do you have a Jane Williams as a sister to your John? We maybe able to help each other. Jean
Yes book #4 will contain the years 1830 thru 1839. I got confused because we worked on transcribing the 1840's this week. I'm typing the 1830's now for book#4. Sorry for the confusing information. Thanks! Mickey
Ken, sorry it has taken me a while to get back with you. I have been looking in my book. Peter Noe and his Noe/Noey/Noah descendents. and I do have a Mary Noe married to Edmond Hodge 4/6/1820. Mary Noe had a brother named Daniel born in 1814 and her father was Joseph Noe mother Catherine Kimbro. According to this book Talitha Hodge was the daughter of Robert and Rachel Hodge born 3/26/1823 d.6/18/1894. She married Joseph DeLyle Noe 7/9/1841. "Talitha was a member of the German Baptist Church and according the the Morristown Gazette 6/27/1894 "She suffered form chronic rheumatism and had been confined as an invalid for sixteen years before her death" They are buried in Noe's chapel cemetery. Joseph and Talitha had 13 children. One of these is my ggrandfather Ambrose Clinton Noe. I also know that when my ggrandfather died in 1947 he had one sister listed in his obit. Kate Carter of Alabama. this fits because his youngest sister is listed as Eva Kate Noe b 12/10/1867. I would love any information you have about Talitha's parents or ancestry. There are some other hodges listed in my book . Frances C. Hodge b.9/23/1863 d.7/10/1915 m. Jacob Tate Noe Jr. they had 9 children. Joseph Hodge married Mary Chaney 1876 they had one child Lucy Hodge b 1878. I hope I have helped let me know. talk to you soon. Good idea, prob does not harm the stone so much that way, I'll bet..... On Thu, 13 Jan 2000 20:12:42 EST CARR2009@aol.com writes: > Didn't know the trick of the black light. Hi All, thought the below black light info at the end was really interesting Sharon R WA State >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi List, I got the following form another list. Hope this info. clears up some graveyard mysteries for some of you. Dating Tombstones One way to help find the era your ancestor was buried is to examine the material from which the tombstone is made. If your ancestor has a stone made of slate or common fieldstone (except wood used by pioneers), chances are the stone dates from 1796-1830. * If the stone is flat-topped hard marble, dates are about 1830-1849. * If the "mystery" stone is round or pointed soft marble with cursive inscriptions, look for a date of 1845-1868. * Masonic four-sided stones began in 1850 and are still in use today. * Pylons, columns and all exotic-style monuments are usually dated 1860-1900. * Zinc monuments date from 1870-1900. * Granite, now common, came into use about 1900. If the writing is too faded to read, use a 75 watt black light bulb in any lamp that casts light directly on the written message. The writing will miraculously appear.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I think I'm finally caught up on my mail. If you have order a book(s) from me and haven't received them please email me so I can check to make sure your copies have been mailed. Also I think I have made all the copies of the original license/bonds for everyone that has ordered them. I want to thank everyone for their support. Book #4 1830-1839 should be ready sometime next week. Thanks! Mickey
What do you need? I am hoping to get to the library tomorrow. Karen
I know that shaving cream works, but the experts are now asking people not to use it because of the chemicals in it. Many of the tombstones are very soft stone and the chemicals can hasten the deterioration. Sometimes taking a squeeze bottle of water & spraying the stone lightly from an angle will help highlight the lettering. Because many of the tombstones are in bad shape, please be VERY careful before applying anything to the stone. Some items are far more caustic than we imagine. Karen
I like that ideal too (shaving cream). That would be practical if you didn't have access to electric in a field. I have heard of battery "Black light" flash lites. We have some very "smart" folks on this list :-) John Linkes
WOW!! That is so neat about using a black light :-) I will remember that!! John Linkes
