    3. Dear Pattie, I saw your query and also a reply to you from someone who mentioned my e-mail address. I am related through Dewitt Clinton Welch who married my ggmother, Anna Beeler. I have not had time to look closely, but believe they married in Grainger Co. TN. Dewitt died abt. 1894, when he was abt. 32 from unknown causes. I only know about his death because Anna remarried a Markwardt and then filed for Cherokee citizenship. Dewitt´s name, and also his death date came from her application. I do know, from correspondance from a David Cospers, who is researching the Beelers, the info below: I have a letter from Mr. Cospers somewhere with the sources if you are interested. Dewitt´s parents were Henry Lea Welch and Anna Coffman. Henry Lea Welch´s father was Tandy Welch. Anna Coffman´s parents were Rhinehart (is it really Rinehart?) Coffman and Sarah Beeler. I have Sarah Beelers parents as John Beeler and Hannah Vandergraff. The Beelers weave in and out of my pedigree. They always seem to be in the Shelton neighborhoods, whether in TN or MO or Indian Territory. My gggmother Penelope Shelton married a Robert Beeler in Grainger Co. TN in 1861. They eventually had 15 children. I just wish I had paid more attention when my grandmother and mother used to talk about family long into the night while I read by the oil lamp. Hope this helps. Regards, Duane Mills Stavanger, Norway

    3. Pattie, My Anna COFFMAN married Jeremiah WYRICK on Aug 26, 1838 in Grainger Co. According to the 1860 census she was 38 years old - so she was born about 1822. One of their daughters, Mary Matilda, married William C. GAMMON in July 1880 in KNOX Co., Nancy married an unknown HANKS/HAUKS, an Ann married an unknown EAST. The youngest child, Cyrus, was bounded out to a family named BAKER with whom he lived until an adult and moved to Kansas(he is my line). The BAKER's childrens names were Lottie(who married a Snodderly) and a son, Fost (Foster?). Can anyone help me? I've been in touch with the following people who have not been able to help me regarding Anna COFFMAN but might be able to help you. They might even see your question to me on the list. 1) Duane Mills duane@online.no (Rhinehart Coffman and Sarah Beeler) 2) Carl zellacoffman@hotmail.com (many Coffman/Kauffman) 3) Dorothy Rawlings 19231918@email.msn.com Pattie Hannon wrote: > > This message is for Mary who is researching COFFMAN in Grainger Co. 3. This message is for Mary who is researching COFFMAN in Grainger Co. Which COFFMANs are you researching? My 3rd great grandfather, Leonard COFFMAN was born in Grainger Co. in 1803. He married a Mary A. ?? there about 1823 and their 3 oldest children: Susanna, Michael and Rinehart were born there. Then the family moved to Indiana. I believe that the Rinehart COFFMAN who was there in the 1830 census could be my Leonard's father, but have not been able to find any proof. 3. Sandy, I am looking for parents of Jeremiah Wyrick married to Anna Coffman on Aug 26, 1838 in Grainger Co, TN and the bondsman was Henry Wyrick. I think the bondsman was probably Henry Jr Wyrick but I have no proof. Henry Jr Wyrick married Mary Nipp on Dec 25, 1812 and his bondsman was Henry Wyrick - most likely Henry Sr. Do you have any info on these people? Thanks for any help. 3. Ross, In your message about putting the Goodspeed info on Surname Site you said to put you email address only with the information for the Turleys and Taylor names. I have copied the Daniel Turley names from the rest of the information and posted it on top of the page (To keep folks from contacting you about all the info) If you would rather, I can put it on a totally separate page with other Articles, or I can leave it there. Of course, I could put your email address by the names within the index list. I was not sure whether you wanted only the two names you mentioned, or the entire group. Please take a look at what I have done and let me know how you prefer it to be done. Also, let me know if you want any of the names from that group removed with reference to your email address. 3. I prepared this index of all names appearing in the biographies a few years ago rather than do lookups and Betty Allen put in on the Grainger County GenWeb site when she was coordinator. But there is a new coordinator and it is no longer available there, though I have offered it to the new coordinator. I don't have a website. However, I have given permission to two persons who asked to put on their websites: Billie McNamara's Grainger county website at http://web.utk.edu/~kizzer/grainger/ and Donna Trewitt's website at http://surnamesite.com Also, the TNGENWEB project is putting the full text of all of Goodspeed's biographies for Tennessee online. 56 counties have been done and 40, including Grainger are unavailable. Check these out at http://www.tngenweb.org/goodspeed/ You can also access my messages of yesterday and all other past TNGRAING messages anytime by searching the TNGRAING archives via http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl by entering TNGRAING as the list to search and following instructions there. The book is HISTORY OF TENNESSEE . . . Containing Historical and Biographical Sketches of Thirty East Tennessee Counties: Anderson, Blount, Bradley, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hamilton, Hancock, Hawkins, James, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Polk, Rhea, Roane, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Unicoi, and Washington. Goodspeed Pub. Co., 1887. It was reprinted with an index by McDowell Publications in 1978 and by Southern Historical Press in 1980. I bought my copies back then. I think McDowell became Cook-McDowell since then. I still get catalogues from SHP. It may have been reprinted again or by others. You can order it by internet, phone, or mail from Hearthstone Books at http://www.hearthstonebooks.com/ or Byron Sistler & Associates at http://www.mindspring.com/~sistler/ and probably most other genealogy book dealers. I primarily use my local bookstore, Hearthstones, first and also, Sistlers, based in Tennessee, which carries many history and genealogy books about Tennessee and other states. Hopefully this will answer most of the questions I have been receiving since posting the indexes. Ross Cameron
