I found these two obituaries. I had forgot about getting them out of the paper. I had them pack away and I dug in my history until I found them. Thanks anyway. Barbara -- Get your free email from http://joinme.com Powered by Outblaze

Dear all, As I said in my last letter to the list re Solomon 1810 census lookup I have had little chance to research. Dear Eleanor, I am not the person who originally offered to do a lookup from this census, but here goes. (Please guys no requests for lookups since I don't have an index.) I finally located this census (or at least Pollyanna Creekmore's transcription) in the MCPL in Kansas City several years ago). I don't know if this booklet is still in print. Apparently many researchers are unaware of its existence since nearly all of the early east Tennessee censuses are lost. Anyway, Eleanor I had meaning to write to you, but I have had no time. A Frances Solomon was the first entry on page 20 of Creekmore's transcription. The oldest person in the household is female over 45. Of course, in these early censuses it is not ALWAYS possible to know for a certainty who was designated head of household. The Frances Solomon household: 2 males 10-16, 1male 16-26, 1 female under 10, 1 female over age 45. Now Sherrod, Dudley, Gooden, his son-in- Benjamin Ivey (my 3rd great grandfather) and Benjamin's brothers are apparently living some distance away from Frances Solomon. (Sherrod etc. are listed on page 15.) Hope this is of some help. In Feb. an offer was made to do lookups from this reconstructed census, compiled by Charles Sherrill. If the offer is still out there, would you mind checking for a John Solomon/an, or some variation of spelling, please? And if it is by "companies, or by neighborhoods, can you tell if there is a proximity to Sherrod Mayes? Thanks in advance, Eleanor
Last month or so, someone on the list made the comment that Panther Creek was, at one time, the boundary between Grainger & Jefferson Counties. Could anyone please tell me where it was in relation to today's towns - or is it still a flowing creek? Would greatly appreciate it. Eleanor
the springhouse is still there too. It's just a few miles from my house. there is several subdivisions close to the park now - Seven Oaks is the nearest one. One of my ancestors, Minetery (spelled many different ways) Black lived in Panther Springs according to the 1880 census. still have not located his grave. there is an old church also on that road with a cemetery. Barbara
Hi Eleanor, I made the original comment about Panther Creek, but I see several have already given you answers. I might add that Panther Creek begins at Panther Springs, which is very close to where Panther Creek Road starts at U.S. 11E, the Andrew Johnson Highway. The Old Stage Road runs right in front of the springhouse, which may still be there. The creek runs close by Panther Creek Road until it runs into Cherokee Lake, the impoundment of Holston River, at Panther Springs State Park. The whole area at least used to be called Panther Springs. The nearest community on the map now is Alpha. My Spoon ancestors owned land and lived on both sides of the creek, so sometimes they were listed in Jefferson County, sometimes in Grainger. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2003 5:05 PM Subject: [TNGRAING-L] Panther Creek > Last month or so, someone on the list made the comment that Panther Creek was, > at one time, the boundary between Grainger & Jefferson Counties. Panther Creek is still there & still flowing. It's inside Panther Creek State Park on Panther Creek Rd. Barbara
there is a Panther Creek in Hamblen County in the west end near the Jefferson county line. Barbara Lockhart [email protected]
