    3. Betty, Thanks for posting the copyright information. This is good to know. I just posted a message in response to the Ancestry automatic renewal. That is true, subscriptions are automatically renewed IF you do not follow their policy for cancellation. They send an email a few weeks before the subscription is due, and in it, they tell you the subscription can only be cancelled or changed by placing a telephone call to them. I cancelled part of my subscription the end of May, and they only billed me for the census records, which is all I wanted to keep. I have also cancelled a subscription due to a move, and due to a crashed computer in the past, and I have had no trouble with them automatically billing me for it. Thanks again, Betty B. 3. Just curious - Did you call them on the telephone to cancel your subscription? You cannot cancel with an email - it has to be a phone call - and it has to be cancelled before the subscription is due. They give all this information in the email they send telling us the subscription will expire in a few weeks. When I cancelled my subscription, on the phone, they gave me a Confirmation Number for the cancellation. I recommend that anyone cancelling a subscription with Ancestry take down the name of the person that you spoke with, make sure you get a confirmation number, and hang onto number until you are sure they did not charge your credit card. The customer service phone number is 1-800-262-3787. By federal law, you have 60 days from the date the charge hits your credit card account to dispute it. Just write a letter to them telling them what charge you are disputing and why. They are required to remove the charge from your account and not charge you any interest while they are investigating the matter. You will later receive a letter from them with the outcome. It will most likely say that the charge has been removed from your account. (They want to keep their customers happy.) It may be aggravating, but there is really no reason to cancel your credit card. 1. [TNGRAING-L] STROPES/TANKERSLEY/THARP Grainger Co. 1799-1800
    2. I am trying to find records in Grainger Co. Tennessee for ADAM STROPES b. 1793 in North Carolina to Peter STROPES and unknown mother. Peter died shortly after Adam was born and the mother married a Mr. TANKERSLEY and moved to Tennessee with Adam. [Adam's obituary says Jacksboro, Tennessee which apparently wasn't founded until 1806 and so that information cannot be correct.  However since that's the only area I have a reference to, that's where I've been searching.  I believe in between 1799-1801 that area would have been in Grainger Co. before that Knox Co., after that Anderson Co.] Adam's mother died in 1800 in Tennessee, and Adam was raised by a Mr. THARP. [Again according to his obituary.] By 1812, Adam had joined the Army at Knoxville, and fought in the war and then moved to Vincennes Indiana. I have been searching for records of orphans and guardians or perhaps apprenticeship records for Adam or his other Stropes siblings. Actually I'm looking for anything on Stropes in Eastern Tennessee, it has been most frustrating trying to find the names of his mother and step-father or the mysterious Mr. Tharp who raised him. Adam's name was originally spelled STROUP, but he spelled it Stropes in all the records in Indiana. I would welcome any suggestions or help with my mystery. thanks! Denise [email protected]

    3. Ray - I took a look at your site, but didn't see anything on Moore that might help me. It is interesting, though, that the names Townsley, Mayes, and Whitaker are also old Hays County TX names. And that's back when Buda's population was barely over 100! When I say Hays County, I mean Buda, Kyle, and San Marcos primarily. I don't think there are any Whitakers left in Buda, but there are some in Kyle -a cousin married one of them. I don't know about Townsley, either, but there is at least one Mayes - that being John Wayne Mayes, son of J. W. and Shirlene Satterwhite Mayes or at least, I saw John Wayne Mayes there about a year ago. And, there were Moore's in San Marcos, and in Dripping Springs. The one in Dripping Springs was a County Commissioner and was killed by Indians while he was horseback and on his way to a Court meeting in San Marcos. Thought I'd tell you this before I forget it. I learned long ago that there is just no guessing where useful information might come from, or just how we come to be in the right place at the right time. It may not be a coincidence that four of your names were located in the same area of TX. Buda is located about 15 miles South of Austin and about 60 miles North of San Antonio, off I-35. Betty B. 3. Thanks, Ray. Yes, there are lots of Moores around. There were several families of Moores in Buda TX, where I grew up. One of them had a drug store downstairs and they lived upstairs. The had a son (I think - Clifton) and a daughter that had polio and was in a wheel chair the rest of her life. It facinated us kids that they had an elevator at the back of the store for the daughter's use. Odd, I hadn't thought about those people in years! What was your grandfather's name, and about when was he born? I can see if I can find anything when I go to the State Archives next. (Don't know when that will be!) 3. Sheri, Almost all of the information I have on Moore is in my query! I do know that one or more John/Jonathan Moore's owned quite a bit of land in and around the vacinity where my g-g-grandfather G. W. Creel had land. Almost all Creel family researchers believe that Grandfather Moore either tried or did beat the boys out of their land in AL, and that's why they packed up and went to MS. Maybe Grandpa thought he deserved it for having spent years raising the boys, all of whom were very young when both father and mother died, and maybe he did deserve it. I'm no help to you right now, but I will keep my eyes open for your McCools when I search in Bibb County for Moores and Creels. Good luck, Betty From: "Sheri P.
