In the 1850 census where Elizbeth is a 16 year old female in the R. W. Cannon household, there is an 83 year old female, Sarah Hughes. This is the wife, Elizabeth's, mother and the 16 year old's grandmother. The combination of Sarah Elizabeth which you cited appears to fit very well. On that same 1850 census sheet is a Ruben Kenady household with a wife named Catherine who is also a daughter to the 83 year old Sarah Hughes. I have not tried to research the 16 year old Elizabeth but your theory sure seems to fit. My gggrandfather, John H. Hughes is also listed on this same census page and he is the youngest son of 83 year old Sarah. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
