His birth year is 1732 in Lancaster County, PA. He died c. 1808 in Giles County, TN. His wife was Elizabeth McElroy Htey had 5 children: Elisabeth, Mary Polly, Williami, Jane, and John. These are the notes I have on Samuel: transferred to 4th Pennsylvania Jan. 17, 1781 wounded July 6, 1781 at Battle at Green Springs. transferred to 3rd Pennsylvania on Jan. 1, 1783, serving until June 1783. All war and bounty records in National Archives were detroyed by fire in War Office in 1800 except warrant #1425 for 300 acres of land issued July 16, 1789 for services rendered. After close of war moved with wife and 5 children to Bedford County, Pennsylvania, owning a home there in 1784. Here Elizabeth died and Samuel married Mary in Carlisle, Penn. Later moved to Mecklenburg County, NC. Late 1780's moved all families (including daughters and their husbands) to Elbert Co., Georgia, then several years later to Tennessee, south of Nashville, settling on land in area which became Giles Co. and Maury Co., TN. Early 1808, they, with children and grandchildren's families, crossed over ridge that runs along the northeast border of Giles Co., passing through a gap which for many years afterwards was known as the Montgomery Gap, now known as the Dodson Gap. Leander and Ann King settled just south of the gap. Capt. Samuel and his son John settled further south on Robertson Fork of Richland Creek. James Shields and Hugh King settled on Fountain Creek at extreme southern edge of Maury Co., (flows into Duck River), and neighbors were George and Rosannah Falls Davidson. I hope this is of help to you. Hoorah! :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
