Alabama Courier, Dec 12, 1946, p.1 RUBE WATKINS-KILLED NEAR ARDMORE Rube Watkins, 62, was killed Sunday morning about sunrise from a shotgun blast, allegedly fired by Robert Hargrove, about 33, who was placed under arrest for the killing by Giles County, Tennessee, authorities. The shooting took place between Ardmore and Elkton, near the highway. It is said that there had been ill feeling between the two for some time. Details obtainable here were vague, but indications were that the shot which killed Watkins was fired from some distance, with perhaps a single pellet being responsible for his death.
