    3. I found members of this family while researching families in some of my other lines. Since it took me more than ten years to find out what happened to most members of this Holt family line I thought I'd share this infor with other Holt-Stephenson family researchers. It should be noted that there are other, unrelated, Holt families found in Abilene, Taylor Co., Texas records. George P. Holt named in newspaper articles below was son of William N. Holt and Martha Cunningham of Limestone Co., AL. He was grandson of Henry Holt and Dorothy Lewter both of whom died in Limestone Co., AL. Claud P. Holt named in records below died in Abilene, Taylor Co., TX on 2-23-1925. When Claude died, four lots were purchased in name of Mrs. Claude P. Holt. Claude was unmarried when he died so it is believed by cemetery personnel that the lots were actually purchased by Claude's mother, Mrs. Mattie Dorcas Stephenson Holt. Holt. 509 Cherry last week with a birthday dinner, given by her daughter. Mrs. J. W. .Maloney, with whom she lives. Born Mattie Dorcas Stephenson in Pulaski, Tenn., Aug. 18, 1859. she married George P. Holt on Oct. 5. 1878. They had three children, Rue Ethel, William Harvey and Claud P. In 1880 they moved lo Alabama and from there to Mountain Peak, Ellis County. Feb. 3, 1894. Mr. Holt died there July 27. 1804. In 1914 Mrs. Holt with her family moved from Ellis to Lamar County. The year 1921 found them moving to Abilene for health purposes. Mrs. Holt's parents were Mr. and Mrs. William Harvey Stephenson. She was the youngest or three children and was named after her mother. Although she was only seven years old at the time, she still remembers the Civil War. A member of the Baptist Church since Aug., 1900, Mrs. Holt has always been active in church work. She spends part of her time caring for her flowers. Attending the dinner were Mrs. Floy Turner great-niece of Mrs. Holt, Mrs. J. B. Walker and Mrs. Ella J Holt, Mrs. Holt's sister-in-law. MATTIE HOLT (photo) . . . funeral Friday Abilenian, 99, Dies Mrs. Mattie Dorcas Holt, 99, who could recall hearing the guns and seeing the soldiers during the Civil War, died Thursday at 12:15 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Maloney. Mrs. Holt had not felt well for the last year or two, but had been seriously ill for less than a day before her death. She was born Mattie Dorcas Stephenson on Aug. 18, 1859, in Pulaski, Tenn., and married G. P Holt there on Oct. 6, 1878. Mr. Holt died July 27, 1904, at Mt. Peak, near Midlothian. Mrs. Holt came to Abilene from Waxahachie in 1921. Funeral will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Kiker-Warren Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Leach, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in City Cemetery. Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Maloney; four nephews, Otis Buchanan, Charlie Buchanan and Walter Stephenson, all of Midlothian, and Allie Stephenson of Greenville. Abilene Reporter-News, Thursday Morning, Oct. 27, 1966, p. 2 Mrs. Rue Maloney Rites today Funeral for Mrs. Rue Ethel Maloney, 83, was to be held at 2 ,p.m. Thursday in Elliott's Chapel. Mrs. Maloney, an Abilene resident since 1920, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Shady Oaks Lodge after a long illness. The Rev. Dan Burrow, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, was to officiate. Burial was to be in City Cemetery. Born June 13, 1883, in Tennessee, she moved to Ellis County as a small child, came here from Blossom and married John Wilson Maloney here Nov. 20, 1925. He died Dec. 15, 1965. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ella Holt, and a cousin, Mrs. Floy Turner, both of 609 Cherry. Pallbearers were Paul Frederickson, Peter Brock, James LeMay, Harold Belyue and Bill Walker. The Abilene Reporter-News, Saturday Morning, November 11, 1950, p.7 W.H.HOLT Rites Slated at Chapel Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kiker-Warren Funeral Home chapel for William Harvey Holt, 54, retired farmer, who died Friday morning at his home in Abilene. Rev. Bob Harris, Friendship Baptist Church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Oddfellows Cemetery. Mr. Holt, who resided at 509 Pecan St., had been in failing health for the past 11 months and became seriously ill five days ago. Mr. Holt had resided in Abilene for 12 years, moving here from Paris, Tex. He was born Aug. 2, 1886 in Athens, Alabama. Survivors include his mother Mrs. Mattie D. Holt and a sister, Mrs. Ethel Maloney, both of Abilene. Pallbearers will be J. E, Walker, Joe James, Howard Turner. L. H. Barfield, S. F. Stewart, and Howard Baker.
