Does anyone out there know if there was a law that kept Indians from inheriting property from Whites? I have an instance where my g-g-g-grandfather died in the 1880s in Giles Co. and did not mention his wife in his will. He also didn't leave hardly anything to some of his children. The children contested the will and the courts ruled that the land was to be sold and the proceeds divided among the children. The court didn't mention the widow at all. The widow was not the children's mother and it is believed that she might have been an Indian. I can't figure out why the court didn't mention her. Thanks, Mike Chapman
