There was a James (or John) Polk Brownlow b in 1841 who was a banker in Maury Co, TN married Hester Ussery. He died in 1917-18 and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Columbia, Maury Co. He is believed to be descended from Rev. James Polk Brownlow and Isabella McCrary. Rev. James Polk Brownlow was a son of James Brownlow and his wife Mary (Polly) who was an early settler on Lynn Creek having moved from Chatham Co NC. Marjorie B. Helmholz published a Brownlow history in 1984 in which she relates those you mention came to Virginia. James Brownlow and Kate Wright arrived sometime around 1750, taught school in Lexington and Abingdon, VA. Their children were Alexander, Isaac, Samuel, William, Joseph. Joseph b 1779-81 m Catherine Gannaway in Augusta Co VA, lived in Wythe Co VA and Sullivan Co TN where both died leaving orphaned children: William Gannaway Brownlow, Elizabeth Wright Brownlow and Joseph A. Brownlow b 1814 in Wythe Co VA m Mary R. Barr with their children being Henry C. (died single), John Bell (died single) and Thomas Gannaway m Bell Piper. Hope this helps. Regards, Marilyn
