I looking for any information on the following: James M. D.(O?) Bellew and wife Nancy Ann, living in Giles County in 1870... (William) Carrol Johns and wife Lucy A. Bellew Johns - Carrol Johns served in Co. K 3rd Reg't Tenn. Cavalry Vol, enrolled 1 Feb 1864 and was mustered out Aug 3, 1865 with his company. Carrol "was shot while attempting to arrest a lawless character who had attempted to kill a Union soldier on the 16th day of July 1866." This according to application for Widow's Pension by Lucy A. (H?) Rutherford/Retherford filed in Giles County on Sep 29, 1897. Claim was "Submitted for rejection on the ground of no title, as soldier's death was not due to his military service. Other points not considered." Carroll Johns is buried at the Old Deerman Chapel Cemetery, St. Clair County, AL. Lucy and Carrol Johns had a son, B. M. Johns, born Nov 27, 1866.
