John Smith Bailey was a resident of Giles Co. TN in 1820 where he is shown on the census. He was later in Lawrence Co. TN during the 1820's until he moved to Fayette Co. TN some time abt. 1829.He is shown there on the 1830 census. He was married to Mary Ann Bentley the daughter of Jeremiah Bentley. Their children Samuel S., John Harrison, Robert M., Elizabeth, Delaney, Elmyrah, Martha Ann Mahala, Jeremiah, and Absolom B. This family moved to Independence Co. AR, and then to LA.
