GRUBBS Family of Greene County, TN: Green Co TN Wills 1783-1890, by Burgnes, page 51: Edwin GRUBBS, 4 February 1839, To wife Elizabeth, all land for her benefit and disposal forever. Children: David, Samuel, Martha, Catharan, Jesse, John, Amos, Mary, Elizabeth, Rachel, Lydia, Hannah - each three dollars as they come of age. Executrix: wife, Elizabeth. Will dated 18 December 1824. Witnesses: Robert EVANS, James JONES, John GRUBBS, Amos GRUBBS. Wetzel enlisted as a Confederate Soldier April 1861 at Russell County VA Courthouse. Unit: Company I, 29th Virginia Infantry. He was born in Wythe Co, VA. The company was first sent to Richmond, VA. The first battle was a bout 6 months later at Petersburg. He was discharged at Appomattox Courthouse soon after the surrender of General Lee. List of names of some soldiers in his unit and where they were living: Samuel GRUBB, Surgeonville, TN and D.C. BEAN, Rogersville, TN. Tennessee Civil War Veteran's Questionnaires (Vol 5 or 6): page 1826, Pension # 10469. Richard R. REYNOLDS born Iron City, TN age 79 at time of filing. Enlisted August 1862 at Ashland, TN in Company B, 9th TN CAV. His father was from SC, moved to Pulaski (Giles Co) TN, then to Pruitton, AL after his marriage. His company first went to Columbia, TN, then a small battle at Laverne, TN, then Spring Hill, next a battle at Lexington (his Co. captured the 8th Mich flag), then was captured at Union City. Jackson, TN, Parker's Cross Roads, CPT J.M. Reynolds, his brother who was also the Company Cdr was wounded and captured. Company members of interest to me: J.A. ANDERSON, Berry BRASHERS, L.A. KIDDY, and James MOORE. Those living at time of filing were: B.F. STANFORD. Additional Page: Small battle at Tuscumbia, AL with Gen STRAIGHT; went to Louden, TN; Knoxville, TN and back to AL. HOOD's Army was fortified at Florence, AL, then to Nashville to battle at Franklin and Nashville, TN. Tennessee Civil War Veteran's Questionnaires (Vol 5 or 6): Page 1857: Questionnaire of J.T. ROBERTS, (1) 33 Regt of TN, Company H, then (2) joined Co K, GEN Forest's Company. Company H, 33rd went first to Union City, TN. The first battle was about 6 months later at Shiloh. Went to Corinth, MS; Mobile, AL; Atlanta, GA; old KY - second battle at Harrisburg; Knoxville, TN and back to Chattanooga, TN; Murphysbur, TN, discharged December 1862. Served under General BRAGG 6 months. Stayed home 5 months, then joined Company K, of General Forest to Fort Piller, and in every battle of his company until the end at Gainsville, AL, April 1865. Went to Weekly Co, TN after the War. Alfred GRUB listed as a soldier in his company. Tennessee Civil War Veteran's Questionnaires (Vol 5 or 6), page 2167: Questionnaire of John Henry WHARTON b: Vicksburg, MS. Enlisted November 1862 at Clinton, TN, Company E, 4th TN. Went first to Nolensville, then battle of Murfreesboro TN. Second battle of Fort Donelson and Battle of Chickamauga. Captured first Mch ____ on TN River in AL. Soldiers in his company were: Dick HARE, John HARE, Joe HARE, John BRASHEARS. Note: more soldiers were listed in all these questionnaires, but I just noted the ones I am interested in.
