    1. [TNGILES-L] HEWITT, M.D. Killed at Ft. Donelson

    3. Dear Listmembers, This is my first posting. Looking for info on: HEWITT, M. D. Lafayette Killed at Fort Donelson, TN, February 15, 1862. Hewitt was a Giles County resident who gave his life to the Confederate cause while serving in the 3rd Tennessee Infantry. I think that Hewitt's daughter was Mary Elizabeth who married Hugh King Thompson 27 Aug 1875 in Giles Co. They migrated to Ellis Co TX around 1900. Mary Elizabeth is said to have been half cherokee. Oral history says that Hugh King Thompson's father (my wife's grandfather) was Marcus Coleman Thompson, but I have been unable to find any info on him. Thanks for posting the 1880 census of Giles Co. I couldn't help but notice all the Colemans and Whitfields. One of the sons of Hugh King Thompson was named Marcus Coleman and another was named Basil Whitfield. Perhaps there is a Coleman and Whitfield connections somewhere. Jim Frimmel Weatherford, TX
