Giles Co. Tn , in the early days was Indian Territory. Settlers who homesteaded there were doing so illegally, accorfing to the Government. Every so ofter the Gov. troops would swoop in, burn the settlers houses and crops to get them off the Territory. The settlers would retreat over the line for a bit, then go back and build and plant again. When Tenn. became a state and counties were formed one by one, the settlers were left alone. I believe Tenn. became a state in 1797. DollyC. looking for the Fleemans Karl Blount wrote: > I am also interested in the First Settlers of Giles Co, Tn.
