    3. Thanks to Pat and Judy who responded to my message on Glascoe! I noticed a William Buchanan on the 1850 census of Giles. Anyone researching "Buchanan " in Giles? Samuel Stephenson of was living in Giles in 1850. He had a daughter Mary, age 18,in 1850. The Stephensons went on to Limestone and Madison counties in Alabama. A Mary A. Stephenson married a Mr. William Buchanan in Limestone on March 15,1872. Did any Giles" Buchanans" migrate to Limestone County,Al? I am also interested in James Montgomery who on Aug.13,1817,along with Thomas Stewart purchased 115 acres on both sides of Robertson' Fork from John Childress. This James Montgomery is not believed to be the James Montgomery who deeded to James Shields,Mar.16,1812, 200 acs. on Big Creek in Second Distict. Also, A James Mongtomery was granted land on June 15, 1810. My James Montgomery married the sister of my Samuel Stephenson, Margaret Stephenson in 1808 in York County,S.C. My Samuel Stephenson is said to have married a Mary Shields, probably of Giles. My James Montgomery sold out in York Couny,S.C. on Oct. 28,1817, and used a new wagon he had bought at the sale of the estate of William Byers Jr. to move his family to Giles. James Montgomery was born about 1780,but the place of his birth is not known. James and Margaret Stephenson Montgomery,it is believed, had the these children: Thomas Jefferson(c.1810) Margaret (1812) Robert Stephenson Montgomery(1814-1885) postmaster at Lynnvile,Giles County,TN.,(1868-1885) Francis Marion (c.1816) Roark(c.1818) Mary E.(1820)m. John Ramer(1798- John Marshall(11 Mar 1823-1896),m. Angelina Strickland;(2) Martha C. Nichols. Dr. James M.(14May 1825-17 Jan. 1892)m. (1) Angelina G. Strickland;(2) Abigail Allen Dr. Samuel Wilson (23 April 1827-16 Jan 1892) m. (1) Melissa E. Strickland; (2) Caroline E. Thomas Ashford (3) __ LaSache; (4) Lucinda (Bottoms McElroy. Note: much of the information has not been proven about the children. Mr. Elmer O. Parker,a descendent of John Stephenson b. 1785,brother of my Samuel Stephenson, was for over thirty years assistant director of the Miltary Archives in Washington D.C. He has done much research in York County,S.C.where James Montgomery lived. He found the above information on the children above in "Biographical Historical Memoirs of Western Arkansas",(Chicago @ Nashville)1891. James Montgomery appears on p. 20 of the 1820 census of Giles-1 male 26-45(1774-1784);2 males under 10(1810-1820)and one female 26-45(1774-1784),Margaret Stephenson b. 1788,his wife;and 3 females under 10(1810-1820) Close to him on p. 20 are his relatives by marriage:Stephensons and Barrons. If anyone researching Montgomerys in Giles can add to or subtract from the children above, it would be greatly appreciated. Where James and Margaret lived after Giles is not known.
