Looking for ANY information on the following: William Carroll JOHNS (a Union soldier in the Civil War) and wife Lucy BELLEW JOHNS, were in Giles County in 1866. Wm Carrol was "shot while attempting to arrest a lawless character who had attempted to kill a Union soldier on 16 July 1866." Two months later, a son, B. Melvin JOHNS was born. Lucy remarried in 1873 to William G. RUTHERFORD/RETHERFORD The 1900 Giles County census (18th Civil District) shows W. G. RUTHERFORD age 72, Lucy H., age 59, and Mary C., daughter, age 19. Census says that Lucy had "4 children, 3 living."
