Bucks Co PA Deed Records 1684-1763 by John David Davis, 1997, p 367 Seems like someone was looking for Gurley/Gourley and Rodman connection. This goes back to perhaps the earliest arrival in PA but could be saved until it is needed. Hope this is helpful. *** Chapter 10, Volume 10, 1759-1763 Bucks Co Deeds page 39 18 June 1759. The area that would later become Scranton was only first settled by a tiny group of white settlers in 1769. More than likely in 1772, there was still no one available who could have married Thomas Gourley and Martha McNeely if in fact they were even in that location. Neither of their surnames appears in lists of the very small party of settlers in the first years of the townships. This raises an important question about the year and location of the Gourley's marriage. Also, if all of Thomas Gourley's children are accounted for, there would be a gap between a 1772 marriage and a firstborn son William b ca 1781. This would suggest a later marriage for Thomas and Martha. 2. Irene M. Griffey, Earliest TN Land Records and Earliest TN Land History [Baltimore, MD Genealogical Pub. Co., 2000, 504 pp] p. 205. Thomas Gourly files # 1290, Washington Co, 41 acres, entry # 2982 on 21 June 1794 grant # 1205, grant issued on 9 Dec 1795 on "Waters of Little Limestone". " The first settler on Gap Creek was Simeon Bundy, whose house stood near the Big Spring, the head of that stream. Matthew Talbot also lived on Gap Creek, where he built one of the first mills in the state. Another was built about the same time, perhaps a little before, by Baptist McNabb. It was on Buffalo Creek where Alexander Anderson now lives. Charles Robertson lived on Sinking Creek, on the farm now owned by Robert Miller. Michael Hyder settled on Powder Branch, about a mile from Watauga, on property still owned by his descendants. James Edens located near Big Spring on Gap Creek, above Simeon Bundy."
