Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SeB.2ACE/709 Message Board Post: I got your email from the Williamson County, Tn genealogical site. I am doing my husband's Cabler genealogy and I know that there were a few Cablers in Williamson County in the 20 years leading to the Civil War. My husband's ggg grandfather was James Boyd Cabler who enlisted in the Civil War in Maury Co. as part of the 9th Tenn Cavalry. Later, he "reinlisted" when his original regiment was (I suppose) devastated and was transferred to the 13th Regiment of Tennessee. We don't necessarily believe he was from Maury County specifically but may have simply settled there at the time as he was already 32. From what research I have been able to accomplish, I have deduced that the Cablers were big on naming their children with middle names that were significant for one reason or another i.e. James Boyd later names his son John Morgan Cabler after John Hunt Morgan (again deducing this) whom he fought under during the first half of his enlistment. John Morgan names his son James Boyd II and so on. I am thinking that James Boyd the I, of whom I am inquiring, was probably named 1. for his mother's maiden name, Boyd (if she exists) or 2. for a Boyd with whom his father may have worked closely. James Boyd Cabler was married to a Sarah E. Forsythe in Maury Co. in February of 1858 and Sarah E. Kellam in 1863. ( I have photocopies of both documents). I also find this to be an interesting coincidence that both of his wives had the same first names and initials. I have often wondered if he married before the war; she thought he had been killed thus she remarried; and then he returns suddenly in the middle of the war and they remarry to each other again. Both of these marriages take place in Maury County and Maury County (from what I can tell from queries I've made and info I have access to here in Lauderdale County, AL) has no record of either of the Sarahs' deaths. As I have no proof (or for that matter, even an inkling) of who James Boyd Cabler's (December 3, 1832- May 28, 1906) parents were, I am hoping you might be able to help me. Do you know of any Boyds, James Boyds, or Boyds that married or were close to Cablers in Williamson County during the 1820's-30's? Or can you give me leads?? I know there were a smattering of Cablers in Maury, Williamson, and Davidson- mostly around Nashville that is during this time. I have been told long ago that there was an Elizabeth and Benjamin Cabler that supposedly were his parents but I have found absolutely NOTHING whatsoever to corroborate this nor have I found any census info or otherwise to corroborate the existence of these two people. Sorry to be so long-winded. If you can help...please let me know. Thanks, Wendy Joyce Cabler Lauderdale (Florence) Co.
