My g,g,granduncle, John P. Brownlow, was married to Hester J. Ussery on Dec 1, 1859. The J.P. who performed the ceremony was William Peaton. The William Peaton family is listed in the 1860 Giles census as follows: Lynnville, pg. 32, house no. 427, family no. 427, Wm Peaton, 35, m, Merchant, real est. val. 1200, pers. prop. val. 500, born in Mississippi. In March, 1861, the 3rd Tennessee Infantry Regiment was mustered in Lynnville. At this organizational muster, Company I was mustered under Captain William Peaton (age 36) with men from the Campellsville / Lynnville area (Tennessee had not yet seceded from the Union). My ancestor, John P. Brownlow (age 20) mustered into Company K, of this same 3rd TN Inf. Reg. These two men, Justice-of-Peace and groom at the earlier wedding were involved in the same military actions to follow. It is an interesting history! LSB
