There has been some messages about the Massie surname recently, just thought I would add this. The Whig Courier, May 7, 1840 edition. Elkton, Ten. May 1st, 1840.--Mr. Editor:---At a regular meeting of the Elkton Lyceum, on motion of Mr. E. J. Eastham, the following Preamble and Resolutions were unanimously adopted. Whereas, since the last meeting of the Elkton Lyceum, it has pleased an overruling Providence, to remove from among us, Mr. William A. Massie, one of the earliest and most active members of our Society: And whereas, we sincerely regret his death, not only as a breach in the circle of private friends, but also as an irreparable loss to our infant Society. Resolved, That the members of this Society wear crape on the left arm for thirty days. Resolved, That we heartily sympathize with the mother and relatives of the deceased in their late bereavement.
