Louisa County Virginia White Family Record History of the White Family by Isabella Nash of Memphis TN. She drew it up for William White, M.D. April in 1891 I quote her writing sent to me by Rowan County Public Library in Salisbury, NC; I am not certain about my great grandfather's name. I think Aunt Ashlin said his name was William White. He immigrated to this country at a very early time from England or Wales. He had two sons; Moses and William White. They settled in Louisa County VA. William White was born 1697 and died 1787. Moses White married Miss Elizabeth Poindexter of Petersburg, Virginia. They lived in Louisa Co VA and had three sons and five daughters; Chapman White, William White, Robert White, Mary W. Gideon, Nancy Manley, Elizabeth W. Baker, Dicia W. Ashlin and Penelope W. Ragsdale. Moses and Elizabeth White lived and raised their children in Louisa Co Virginia and died there. After their deaths, their family immigrated to Williamson County, TN in 1796 and settled near Franklin. Chapman White sr., the eldest son , married Miss Leigh, an only daughter. Her father and mother emigrated with the White family to TN and settled within a mile of Franklin, TN with their son in law, Chapman White. After his first wife died, Chapman married Miss Martha Maury and had four children; William Chapman White, Abraham Maury White, Moses White and Lucinda Wallace. William Chapman White Jr. left five children, two sons and three daughters; Martha Buford, Mary Campbell, Ann McNutt, William White and Josiah Simpson White. Abram Maury White left four children; two sons and two daughters; Dr. Robert White lived in Shelbyville, TN, Abram White died young, Martha White, Virginia White married Mr. Buchanan and lived in Shelbyville, TN. Moses White's family went to TX, Mrs. Wallace's husband swindled your grandfather our of all he had. William White, the second son, married Miss Eleanor Johnston, a daughter of Major john Johnston of Rowan County, NC. He immigrated to Davidson County, TN in 1796. He owned a great deal of land in Davidson, Williamson, Maury, Madison, Obion, Lauderdale and Perry Counties, TN. William White and Miss Eleanor Johnston were married February, 1800 and settled three miles west of Franklin, the old homestead, in 1800. She was called 'Pretty Nellie". She was said to be beautiful. They had 7 children. I will give you're their names. There were 6 sons and one daughter; Abner Nash White, William White, Benjamin Franklin White, James Madison White, Alpheus White, Matthew Johnston White, and Isabella White- the authoress. There never lived a more noble man than Abner Nash White. If had not been for him, we all would have been left penniless. He worked night and day, rode in all kinds of weather to save what he could for his parents, brothers and sisters, ruined his health and died. I cannot forget what he went through. He was born the 8th day of December 1804 and died in February, 1835. Second son, William White, married Miss Mary M. Bennett, a daughter of Mr. John Dabney Bennett and Elizabeth Tarrill Bennett, Franklin Co TN. William and Mary had 4 sons and 2 daughters; Alpheus, Benjamin Franklin, John Bennett and William White; Elizabeth Terrill and Angelina Isabella White. James Madison White married his first cousin, Miss Ann Johnston, a daughter of Robert Johnston and Jane Crockett. They had 3 sons and 3 daughters; William died an infant, Ellen also. James in his 4th year, Sallie married Robert Norment and had no issue. Alice married Nathaniel Rives and had two children; Nathaniel James and Alice Ann. I do not know their ages. John Johnston White married Elizabeth of Summerville, TN, the only daughter of William and Eleanor White. Isabella married Dabney Claiborne Collier of Mecklenburg Count VA on Sept. 28, 1836. He died July 17, 1843. They had 5 children; The first born premature The second Abner White born Sept 4, 1838, died 14th of Sept, 1840 Eleanor Johnston born Oct. 5, 1839, died 10th Sept 1840 Dabney West Collier, born Feb 20, 1841, married Miss Martha Maury of Somerville, TN. Isabella married three times. Her second husband Ira Cook Knuland was born in St. Frances, LA. We were married April 5, 1853. He died Dec. 3, 1868. Eldest son, Abner West White, born 8th of Dec. 1804, died Feb. 1834. Second, William White Jr born Oct. 21, 1810, Third, James Madison White, born Nov 15th, 1812 and died Dec 23, 1852, Fourth, Benjamin Franklin White was born April 17, 1814 and died Aug 10, 1841. Fifth, Alpheus White was born May 7th 1817 and died Nov. 18, 1841. Only daughter, Isabella was born Nov 15th, 1818. The sixth son, Matthew Johnston White was born 12th of Oct. 1820 and died in Coahoma County, MS, April 11, 1872. All of my brothers lived and died noble and honored gentlemen. They settled near Franklin, TN and raised their family there. They had 5 sons and 5 daughters; Franklin White, Sanford White, Robert White, Boddy White, Thomas White, Elizabeth White died in her 30th year, Sallie White married Mr. Adkinson, Jane married Mr. Rayine, Dicie married E. Crockett, Franklin White married his first cousin, Miss Martha Ashin. Their eldest daughter; Mary, married Frank Gideon and had two sons and four daughters; James Gideon married Priscilla Beauford, Frank Gideon, Elizabeth Gideon married Spencer Beauford, Sallie Gideon married James Beauford, Nancy Gideon married Samuel Ward, Charles and James Spencer settled in Giles County, TN near Pulaski. Spencer Beauford and Elizabeth had one son, William, and 3 daughters; Elizabeth married Dr. Thompson near Spring Hill. Mary married Robert Beauford, Gabriel Beauford's sons. Susan Beauford married Jack Beauford. They settled near Cottage Hill, MA. William Beauford married Harriet Beauford, Edward Beauford's daughter. Moses White and E. P. White's second daughter, Nancy White, married Mr. C. Manley. They had 2 sons and 2 daughters. Their eldest daughter married MR. Martin of Huntsville, AL. Their second daughter married Mr. Clark and settled in MS. Oldest son settled in KY near Covington and second son died young. Moses and Elizabeth White's fourth daughter, Dicie White, married William Ashlin of Virginia. They had 3 sons ; Robert Ashlin, William Ashlin and John Ashlin. Robert returned to Virginia and lived and died there. He married but I know nothing of his family. John married in Carroll County. Had 2 children, John, his son, was killed in the Battle of Murfreesboro. Rebecca married and lives in TX. William Ashlin married and moved to Cadow Parish, LA and left one daughter; Mary married Cary Moore and had 4 daughters; Eliza married James Bridges and lives in TX, Amanda married Andrew Johnson, Martha married Mr. Reynolds, Elizabeth married. William Ashlin and Dicie W. Ashlin's second daughter, Frances Ashlin, married David Moore, and settled in Carroll Co, TN. They left several children but I can't tell you anything of their family. William Ashlin and Dicie Ashlin's daughter, Martha Ashlin, married her 1st cousin, Franklin White, a son of Robert White. They left 3 children; daughter, Ann, died young, James was killed in the Battle of Shiloh. The youngest is with his aunt, Mrs. Crocker. William and Dicie's 4th daughter, Ann Ashlin, married Zenas Clark and settled in Yellowberry County, MS. William and Dicie's 5th daughter, Virginia Ashlin, married Zebuland Maury, a son of Abram Maury Sr. They left 5 sons and 2 daughters;
