Through the help of Theron Smith of Texas and William W. Massey of Florida (distant cousins), and other Massey genealogists, we all have pretty conclusively deduced that my gggreat grandparents, John and Mary Henry Massey, migrated over to Giles County, probably around 1818 to 1820, from Lincoln County, North Carolina. That area of Giles County later became the southwestern portion of Marshall County, as you well know. They lived there and had several children that I know of including Drury, James H., Joseph H., John Wesley, Leroy, Eliza, Lucinda C., and Mary Jane Massey. Mary died in 1856 and evidently John moved to Missouri to be with son James, because he was buried in Pleasant Grove, MO, in 1858. Litigation appears in Marshall County court records in 1859 listing the survivors. My great great grandparents were John Wesley and Louisa Short Massey who lived in and around Archer and Spring Place. One problem that keeps plaguing me is, I have seen several other Masseys in Giles County in this time period, and I can't help but wonder if John and Mary did not move to this area with other brothers, cousins, or relatives. Massey was just not that common a surname back then. I also have seen some Masseys in Lincoln County about this same time and I have wondered about them, because where some of the Masseys moved (over around Delina, Archer, and Spring Place) is only a stone's through from Boone's Hill in Lincoln County, Tennessee. Three questions: 1. Could anyone help me with any of the Massey siblings listed above? 2. Does anyone have any idea what happened to Leroy Massey and his wife, Amanda? 3. Are there any Masseys (or related surnames) in Giles or Marshall Counties who are related to any of the above? Thanks for your time in advance. Most sincerely, William R. (Bill) Massey of Lewisburg/Marshall County, Tennessee Bill, I have a Mary Jane Massey born about 1828 who married David Frank Abernathy. I don't know her parents but this could be the Mary Jane you have above. I would like to know if you believe this is the correct Mary Jane. They had a son Ephraim Abernathy who married Subina Luticia Ridgeway. Ephraim had a son Loy Ivin Abernathy who married Virgie Lily Ford. Loy had a son Elmo Basil Abernathy who married Martha Jane Summers. What info I have was provided by another researcher. I have no further info regarding sources or other children. Hope this helps.
