You are right that his uniform is dark. I presumed that he would have fought with his uncle, cousins, and neighbors in a Giles regiment, but the soldiers website has two listings for persons named James M. Ross in Union regiments from Tennessee. I understand that James Marshall Ross was a prisoner of war, but I'm lacking in details. I'd like to know more.
