Researchers of TN Land Grants from NC: I just received an inquiry about located NC Land Grants in a specific county in TN. As an example, they asked about: Franklin Co TN. They have to find the original county on the internet.[ Like Franklin Co TN in this case] I typed in Franklin Co TN and found it was formed from Bedford Co., Dec 3, 1807. Bedford Co TN was established same day from Rutherford Co TN. Rutherford Co was part of Davidson Co. Davidson Co TN was formed in 1783 from Washington Co TN. She has to look in the NC to TN Land Grants book page for the different dates that are listed for Washington Co Land Grants and see if her ancestor is listed. Then contact the Main Office of Secretary of State in TN [ not a local Sec. of State branch] They may be on the internet. Inquiry will need; 1. number in the book 2. date and county in the book 3. name of ancestor from the book. I do not know how much they cost. Perhaps on line or a phone call will be very helpful.
