Anyone have access to the Tennessee, Records of Giles County, General Index to Deeds, vol. A, 1810-1859 (WPA, 1940) ...?? Searching for deed[s] for James MITCHELL between 1810 and 1855 in the Cornerville, District 17 area of Giles Co., now Marshall Co. That area became Marshall Co., in, I believe, 1871. James is in the 1836 Giles Co. District 17 tax list, but we believe he purchased his land well prior to that. He would have probably sold it in 1855 or earlier when he removed to TX. (1)- *CAPT.SAMUEL MONTGOMERY*and *GEN.MARTIN ARMSTRONG*--- [Some Sources say]-Were "ARMY SURVEYORS", who had many early LANDD HOLDINGS in the-"GILES/MAURY/LINCOLN" AREAS, and retired/settled in the "GILES/ELK RIVER CHURCH AREAS"!! Some sources say that they also had LAND-HOLDINGS in "KNOX/BLOUNT/GREENE AREAS"??? Any Intel, even Crumbs and Tidbits would be greatly appreciated.
