    3. William Clark White born 8 August 1820 Lincoln Co TN moved to Giles Co TN when war noises began. He felt there was a better climate for those who disagreed with the main reason for the war in Giles Co. He did not believe in slavery. He married first Elizabeth Nixon ( no family info known to me) and second Eliza K. Wilkerson ( dau of Lewis and Isabel). He was murdered at his farm on Christmas Eve 1864 by his own neighbors who were returning discouraged from the war efforts of the south. They wanted to take his cattle and he refused to tell them where his sons were tending them. Most of his cattle, horses and wagon had already been taken for the war efforts and he had a large family to support. His wife and at least one son, John Wesley, saw him murdered. His wife went into labor and delivered their son, William Clark (Babe ), two days later. It was said to have been a horrendous murder, not simply shot. Due to lack of papers being published during those terrible times, I have not been able to locate any mention of his murder and the events said to have followed it. I have heard his son/s avenged his death? Many religious newspapers continued printing and many kept diaries and other writings of those terrible days. Does anyone know of a source that I might contact to try to locate any news of his death? Even for those days, that was an event that would not have gone unrecorded someplace. I would appreciate any help in this matter. Ginny Keefer
