Judy, When I learned that one of my own branches had slaves, I was appalled and felt ashamed. A distant cousin from that line told me I had nothing to feel ashamed for, and we're not responsible for what our ancestors did. Thats true......but you still have that pang, because you know it was wrong. Just wanted you to know that I know how you and others feel. My two-cents worth. Johnston, you will find he was a slave trader and transactions of all of his sales. He was the brother to Elizabeth Payne Johnstone, married to John collins listed as buyer.
