    3. Ginny, Thank you for answering my post. I appreciate the information re: SARAH JANE CLICK. I am in touch with Mildred. She knows very little about Sarah. I think Sarah was born in Cocke Co. but am not sure. If I knew when, where and her father's name I might be able to find her. I think her father was HOLLOWAY, don't know first name, but can't find a Holloway family listing a Sarah Jane. I found a Sarah listed with her husband, GEORGE W. Fine, and daughter, MARY E. FINE, in the 1860 Cocke Co. census. This Sarah was listed as 18 yrs old. This might be a good match but for the fact that Sarah's husband in 1860 should have been JOHN W. FINE. Jane and John had one girl prior to 1860 (1859?) and another girl after 1860 (1864?). The second girl was born after John died in a prisoner of war camp. On 1/24/08, Virginia L. 3. Hi Ken Herren; I checked Ancestry.com to see what they had from Sarah Jane. It probably is loaded with errors but here it is... Sarah Jane Click b ca 1873 TN, died 1905 [error] Giles Co TN [prob. also error?] Dau. of; Daniel C. Click born May 1853 Cocke Co TN, died 1918 Shawnee, Pottewatamie, OK. married; Hester Allen born 25 Oct 1855 TN, died 15 July, 1899 Marianna, Lee Co, Ark. married 15 July, 1878 Marshall Co TN. Daniel son of; James Gray Click b 1821 Cocke Co TN, died 1884 Marshall Co TN. md ca 1843 Cocke Co TN to; 1st; Sarah Bailey b 1824 TN, d 1867 md 2nd ; Sophie Holloway abt 1867 TN. ** I looked on Marshall Co TN deaths list- about 3/4 of way down the list, I found; Sarah Jane Click, born Newport [Cocke Co] TN, died 1878- posted by Mildred Cast whose E Mail address is no longer good. I was not able to find Sarah on Giles Co site. It appears that none of above was correct by your post that she had the surnames of Holloway and Fine . Ms. Mildred Cast was researching the surnames of Fine, Covey and Click in 1999. Maybe there is something helpful in this mess I am sharing off of Ancestry.com ?? Ginny ginnykeefer@cox.net

    3. Ken, Thank you for answering my post. Interesting turn of events! I've already checked with Marshall Co. James Click is buried there but no Sarah Jane. Of course, she could be in an unmarked grave. 3. History of Marshall County Tennessee Marshall County is located in Middle Tennessee, one of the state's three "Grand Divisions." Formed in 1836 from Maury, Lincoln, and Bedford counties. In 1870, a part of Giles County was also added. The first census for Marshall County was taken in 1840. Maybe this will help. 1. [TNGILES] Subject Lines
    2. Anna O. Jackson
    3. This message was picked up from another list. I thought it would be good for us to review the reasons for using a good subject line. Using RootsWeb: Getting to the Heart of the Subject: Are You Guilty? By Joan Young (A RootsWeb Volunteer) Have you ever posted a query on a RootsWeb mailing list or message board and gotten absolutely no response? Does it seem like everyone but you is getting the answers and feedback they need while you are shut out in the cold? If so, let's try to pinpoint the reason and improve your odds of making that RootsWeb connection. THE PROBLEM Most people are constantly on the go. They try to "multitask" to cover a lot of ground as quickly as possible. When we scan our inboxes for new e-mails, or search new message board posts, we generally don't read every word of every message. Many of us scan the subject lines and then only read those messages that appeal to us; that is, we read the message if we find a name, location, or fact in the subject line that attracts our attention. Digest mailing list subscribers, especially, are notorious for quickly scanning the subjects in the index of a digest before deciding which messages to read and which to ignore. If we have books at our disposal that allow us to do lookups, we often only read those posts that mention the topics covered by our books. PITFALLS TO AVOID When we encounter a subject line that says "no subject," or a generic subject line such as "Looking," "Searching," "Genealogy," "My Family," or worse yet, "Help!" we tend to disregard the message and move on to the next e-mail. Another red flag for someone perusing a mailing list is the digest subscriber who merely clicks "reply" to a digest message and leaves the digest as the subject of the reply. I think we'd all admit that a subject line of "SMITH Digest, Vol 2, Issue 171" isn't exactly telling us much about the content of the message within. When replying to a digest message be sure to change the default subject to an informative one. A WELL-WRITTEN QUERY IS MEANINGLESS IF IT IS NEVER READ Quite possibly you have drafted an informative, well-written query with the names of the people you are researching, details of the times and places where they lived, and the information you wanted to learn. However, it may still be lost if no one reads your message because of a poor subject line. Your message body should embellish your subject line and provide additional details. THE SOLUTION: CREATING A MEANINGFUL SUBJECT LINE TO ATTRACT READERS Provide concise but specific information about the content of your message. Include the name, location, and time frame of the individuals in your message. Tell us what information you are looking for. In other words, briefly outline your reason for posting the query. If your query includes an interesting story about your ancestor, provide the reader with an indication of the story enclosed so that your message attracts his attention. Some examples of good subject lines follow: --Maiden name needed for Sophie who married John SMITH in 1900 in Chicago, Illinois --Seeking parents of Joseph JONES born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1765 --Looking for Obituary of James JOHNSON who died in Clearwater, Florida, in 1965 --Seeking Descendants of Henricus GEIGER who Died in 1746 in Lembach, Alsace, France --James O'REILLY, born New Jersey, 1830; killed at Battle of Gettysburg, 1863; need marriage information --Morris FRIEDMAN, immigrated in 1900 to Philadelphia, PA, from Russia-- Seeking Village of Origin Note: It is typical to capitalize surnames so that they quickly catch readers' attention. CONCLUSION The success of your query rests largely on your ability to create a subject line that will grab readers. Readers will be more likely to take the time to study your message and consider whether they have an interest or an answer for you. So stop crying for HELP in the wilderness and SEARCHING and LOOKING aimlessly, and start providing specifics in your subject lines. Joan -- Anna O. Jackson Laus Deo! IN GOD WE TRUST! 3. Judy, I have several burials for Biles-Potts Cemetery in my database. In less than 10 minutes I will be off line for a day or two while Verizon installs FIoS. The wiring in our house is old and some of it may have to be upgraded. Once Verizon and/or electrician completes these tasks I'll be back on line. I'll gladly share any information I have about burials in Biles-Potts. From interviewing members of Hastings and Nelson families I seem to recall that I have knowledge of burials of some unmarked graves of some babies. I know of at least one person (Hastings-Nelson desc.) who was buried in Biles-Potts but, in the last 20 years or so, her remains were moved to Maplewood. Judy, my email address will be changing. I have no idea what it will be. I believe I should be able to use current email address for approximately 30 more days. 3. My family is connected to the Wood (no s) family of Giles County. In the Pulaski Library, they have extensive information on the Wood family and A family chart going back to the 1600's. Perhaps you can get a genealogist In Giles County to do research for you. Some of the names you mentioned Sound familiar from my experience at the Library. One cousin said Mary Polly McKinney's husband's name was Elihu or Jahue Woods, but I have not been able to substantiate this. In 1830 Mary Polly McKinney would have been 22, married to a Wood/Woods with one son Joseph age 1. Unless there was a mistake on the census or the Woods family was living in a different county, this only left: p.171 Woods Johnathan 100001-00001 (Likely.) p.172 Woods Johnathan 10001-00001 (Likely.) p.209 Woods Jno. 10001-11001 (If the two daughters died) She was in the 1840 census next door to Reuben McKinney: 1840 Giles Co TN - M704 Roll 523 Book 1 p.95 #12 MCKINNEY Reuben 00021001 - 00010001 no slaves, 6 total, 4 agriculture #13 WOODS Mary 021 - 100001 no slaves, 5 total, 1 agriculture I had assumed that she might have been his daughter, but she may have been Reuben's niece instead. Data for Mary Mckinney Woods in the 1880 Barry Co MO census indicates that her father was born in VA and mother in NC, so 1850 Giles Co TN data for Reuben and his wife Nancy McKinney does fit: 1850 Giles Co TN, District 3 - M432 Roll 879 Book 1 p.324b 106-106 MCKINNEY Robert 27 TN Farmer & wife 107-107 MCKINNEY Reubin 67 VA Farmer 2300 & Jane 65 NC Mary Woods and her children were in District 2. I think Joseph Woods was probably listed twice in this census, as a son for Mary Woods and overseer for Lucy Polly. We need to find probate records for Reuben McKinney who died about Sep 1858 in Milam Co, TX and Reuben's wife Nancy who died there in 1866 to see if Mary Woods was an heir. If Reuben McKinney married Nancy Jane Springer Lyles in 1811 Roane Co, TN, then Nancy should not be mother of Mary Polly McKinney b.1808 TN; it was Nancy's second marriage and her maiden name was Springer. About 2 years ago I stopped by the Giles County Court House, but had no real luck sorting out the Woods or McKinney lines. I will continue by email.
