I don't know who the John Montgomery was who settled on Robertson's Fork where James Montgomery, the Barrons and Samuel Stephenson settled after leaving York Co,S.C. There were three companies raised in York Co,SC for the War of 1812. A John Montgomery is listed as a member of this company. It's possible that John Montgomery might have come from the surrounding counties. John Stephenson 1785-1845,son of Robert Stephenson and Jane Barron and brother of Samuel Stephenson who went to Giles TN, was a member of this company. John Stephenson got John Hope to substitute for him at the end of the war. Jane Barron married James Hope Jr. after the death of her husband Robert Stephenson in 1798. http://www.rootsweb.com/~scycghs/1812.html 1. John Stephenson, b c 1724, m. It could be that the gravestone was not legible when the records were compiled. Another likely explanation could be that he is buried in an adjacent county. 1840 census of Limestone Co,Alabama Asa N. Stephenson is on page 131. Jno. Montgomery; Josiah Brakeen, Jackson Locke and Andrew Elliott are right above Asa. Below Asa is Thomas Henderson. Asa Newton Stephenson may have been a son of Samuel Stephenson who had two boys under ten years of age on the 1820 census of Giles Co,TN. Asa Newton Stephenson married Elizabeth Elliott in Limestone Co,Alabama in 1837. Asa Newton Stephenson died before 1850. Elizabeth married a John F. Moore after the death of Asa Newton. 1850 census 243 243 Elizabeth Elliot 33 F GA (probably was "53") Elizabeth Moore 33 F TN Mary J. " 11 F AL Samuel " 10 M AL James A. " 1 F AL Samuel D. Stephenson is the Samuel Stephenson mentioned in the company of a Gaines Smith described at the Giles Co,TN website. Mary J. Stephenson married William Rambo Samuel Stephenson, age 10, is buried in the New Garden Cemetery in Limestone Co,Alabama. Mary J. Rambo is also buried in New Garden Cemetery. The New Garden Cemetery has been destroyed by vandals, but according to the Limestone Co,Alabama Historical Society, which is trying to restore the cemetery, there is an Andrew J. Montgomery ,age 23,died Oct.1,1849 buried in the cemetery. I know very little about the Montgomery family in Limestone Co,Alabama, but my Samuel Stephenson went with his relatives, the Barrons and Montgomerys from York Co,S.C. to Giles Co,TN. Samuel D. Stephenson b. 1839 and his wife Evalene Bradshaw had a daughter Kate who married William Ewell Hollis who was born in Giles Co,TN in 1863.I am still interested in the Henry Stephenson,or Stevenson who married a Calton or Colton in Giles Co,TN. In 1830 or 1840 census of Limestone,Henry Stephenson is listed on that census. I am looking for a Robert Stephenson b. 1793 in York Co,S.C. who I know was in Giles Co,TN in 1814. He was a brother of my Samuel Stephenson b. 1795 in York Co,S.C. My Sylvester Brown Stephenson bought land in Limestone Co,Alabama in 1855,Township 1 South, range 4 West, Huntsville Meridian. Under his name on a page I have is James Montgomery,Assee, 9,Feb. 1818 PB Sam Dalton 1818 James Montgomery 30 Apr. 1831 SS-James Mongomery,Asse, same, same, PB same 1821 Sylvester Brown Stephenson was the son of Samuel Stephenson who appears on the 1820 census of Giles. Samuel's brother-in-law was James Montgomery. b.N.C. I doubt if the James Montgomery,Asse, was Samuel Stephenson's brother-in-Law.

He seems to have been born ca 1800 and he seems to have died after the Census of 1850 and before the 1860 census. I'd like to know if and where he's buried in Giles Co. In 1836, he was in District 14. The 1850 Census has him in the 8th District. Are those points of help in locating a cemetery? His wife was Elizabeth, and I have some reason to think possibly her maiden name was Hardison (Hardeson). Are there any here who are tracing either of those lines?
