He is my paternal Grandfather, William Henry Mason, brother. I'm not sure where Uncle Carlos grew up; it could be Morgan County or Limestone County Alabama (or any place really; we don't know much). I do know Uncle Carlos lived in Ardmore, Giles County, Tennessee with his wife Peggy. I don't know Peggy's maiden name. As a little girl we would visit them often on their small farm. Carlos and Peggy had 3 children Hoyt (or Hoytt), Terry, and Barbara. Uncle Carlos passed away in December 1980 and Peggy and the children may have passed away as well. All information is greatly appreciated. Tracie Mason Holton Seattle, WA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. His daughter Sarah, married William Thomas Williams and I believe but cannot prove that William's father was Benjamin Williams. If I could find one of these men living close to the Terry's this would give me more evidence. Julie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Will take a closer look when I have more time. There are several Williams - do you have a first name for the Williams? I didn't see but a few Terry's in the 1880 census and only one, Thadeus Terry in Dist 15, in that part of the county (nor did I find Thadeus on the landowner map). The overlap of the sheets isn't exact so I may have missed them. That area, the northeast part of the county, is adjacent to Maury Co. and Marshall Co. A chunk of the NE portion of Giles adjacent to the area you mentioned was moved into Marshall Co. in 1871, so you might try there. For my Abernathy cousins, this is interesting. We do not often find Scottish info about Abernathy's home in Scotland. Maybe this was one? Ginny http://www.electricscotland.com/travel/perth/abernethy.htm

Try this for a 1878 map. In reply to my email to TSLA (reference.tsla@state.tn.us), they responded: "The 1878 Beers map of Giles County is Map #1051 in our collection. It consists of six separate sections. The fee for reproduction of these sections is $5.00 per shot. The total fee would be $30.00. If you wish to order a copy, send a check or money order for that amount (payable to TSLA) and mail your request to Tennessee State Library and Archives, ATTN: Manuscripts Section, 403 Seventh Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37243-0312."
