My ggg grandparents were Thomas Horn who married Elizabeth Knox the daughter of Joseph Knox. They were married in Giles County. So far I have had no luck finding any info on them. I would appreciate a lookup if it's not too much trouble. It is a used copy that I had purchased over the 'net. Glued to one of the back pages is an obituary. I thought I would transcribe it & throw it out to the list, in case someone is related to this woman ( & if you are related to her, let me know...there are notations thruout the book, I'll transcribe them for you, as well). "Mrs. Gordon Rites Slated For Sunday Services for Mrs. Beulah McLaurine Gordon, 91, of 4203 Leland Lane, will be at 2:30 pm Sunday at the West End Methodist Church. Dr. Roy C. Clark and Dr. A.J. Walton will officiate. Burial will be in Lynnwood Cemetery, Lynville. Finley Dorris and Charlton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Gordon died Friday in a local infirmary after an extended illness. A native of Lynville, she was a daughter of the late DeWitt Franklin and Ella Heflin McLaurine. She was a descendent of John Laird, a prominent landowner in Giles County who was Lynn Creek's first postmaster. Her grandfather, the Rev. Rufus T. Heflin, was a trustee of Trinity College, Durham, N.C., the predecessor of Duke University, and the first editior of the North Carolina Christian Advocate. Mrs. Gordon was educated in the Lynnville schools and attended Peabody College. She moved to Nashville in 1932 and was a receptionist for the YWCA for several years and was a reader in the state sessions. She was married in 1903 to Harvey Walker Gordon of Lynville. He died in 1904. Mrs. Gordon was a member of the West End Methodist Church and the Mary Helm Bible Class. Survivors include a son, Buford Gordon, Nashville; a nephew, Paul DeWitt McLaurine, Nashville; and a niece, Mrs. Walter H. Gay, Memphis. " There are some really good tid-bits in there. I hope it helps someone. Hello All, I am researching my MARTIN line & would appreciate any information or leads that you can give me. Here is what I have so far: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1...William MARTIN m. Mary Ann (Unknown) & they had the following children: 2...Mary Ann MARTIN, b. March 15, 1858 in TN, d. November 28, 1931 in Carroll County, MS.... m. ( 1 ) John MOBLEY in Giles Co., TN on March 16, 1877 3... John MOBLEY (only known child from this marriage) m. ( 2 ) George David DUNN in Carroll Co., MS on December 25, 1879, had several children from this marriage: 3...Frances (Fannie) Jane DUNN 3...Alice DUNN 3...William DUNN 3...Lizzie DUNN 3...James DUNN (died at about 2 years old) 3...Katie DUNN 3...Sarah (Sally) Rebekkah DUNN 3...Georgia Ola DUNN 3...Ada DUNN 3...Elma Cain DUNN 2...Betty MARTIN, m. Will Beam 2...Becky MARTIN, m. ( 1 ) Jack Crumpler, ( 2 ) George Matheny 2...William ( Bill ) MARTIN, never married 2...Tom MARTIN, m. Lou UNKNOWN 2...Benny MARTIN, died at about 18 years of age. My information shows that the whole family could possibly have been in OK around 1874 - 1877 (from family reports but not yet proven with documentation). They were in Giles County, TN in 1877 & in Carroll County, MS in 1879, both these dates coincide with the daughter / Mary Ann's, marriages. I also show that William & Mary Ann MARTIN died in Cuthand, Red River County, TX. I do know that some of my DUNN line (which, of course, is Mary Ann's last husband's name) went to TX from Carroll County, MS. It is possible that the MARTINs & DUNNs traveled together. I have seen reference to DUNN / MARTIN marriages in TX but have no proof of connections to my lines. I don't know who the ancestors of William & Mary Ann MARTIN were. t is also said that there is a strong Native American (Cherokee?) connection to William & Mary Ann MARTIN ....maybe through each of them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I would also be interested in any information on the John MOBLEY line. I have never been able to find Mary Ann MARTIN MOBLEY DUNN's son from this marriage. In advance, thank you for any help you can give. Seeking information on Mary STEPHENSON born 1832 in Al., and John STEPHENSON born 1834 in Al. In 1850, Mary and John were living in the home of their parents Samuel and Mary SHIELDS STEPHENSON of Giles County,TN. After 1850 these two STEPHENSONS disappear. If anyone has a Mary or John STEPHENSON born in Alabama in their family tree, I would appreciate the information. Cemetery records of Giles, which I do not have,is another option. Samuel STEPHENSON was born in York County,South Carolina about 1795. He was the son of Robert STEPHENSON 1755-1798,a soldier of the American Revolution, and Jane BARRON. A Samuel "STEVENSON " was living in Giles in 1820 with two boys under 10 years old. Samuel's sister,Margaret STEPHENSON, married James MONTGOMERY in York County, and they were in Giles by 1817. Another sister of Samuel STEPHENSON,Dorcas, married John BARRON in York County,South Carolina in 1808. They moved to Giles before 1814. In 1814,a George SHIELDS and Alexander BARRON sold land to Alexander BARRON,Jr. John BARRON and Robert STEPHENSON ,a brother to Samuel, witnessed the sale. Sylvester Brown STEPHENSON b.1837 in AL. married Mary HOLT,daughter of Edmund and Nancy HOLT of Giles County,TN., in Limestone County,Alabama,in 1857. Sylvester's brother,George Alexander STEPHENSON, born 1822 in AL. married Elizabeth Sarah PERRY (parents unknown)in 1849 in Giles. These are the known siblings of Mary and John STEPHENSON .
