    3. Hi. I was previously subbed to this list as Regina Roper under the address afn02428@afn.org This address is no longer working, because the ISP was hacked. Any mail sent there in the last 4 weeks has probably bounced. I may even be unsubbed. I am rejoined under this new email. Researching: Rowe, Butler, McCormack, McGuire Regina Roper

    3. I would like to make contact with anyone working on the Jackson family in Giles Co. Sterling Jackson died in Nov of 1872 at the home of his son in Pulaski according to a newspaper in Alabama. It said he was about 88 years old. He was the brother of Rebecca Jackson Huff of Giles Co. Does anyone have this family line? Any help will be appreciated. Margaret Moffitt Kaufman, TX

    3. Hi! My Barnett family lived in Spartanburg Co, SC. Old John Barnett and Richard Barnett and many others moved from Spartanburg to Giles Co, Tenn. before 1810. There were many Foster families in Spartanburg so you might check those records. I am descended from Richard and John's brother Joroyall Barnett and he died in Spartanburg along with his parents. So my family did not go to Tennessee. Janice Barnett Craft, Greenville, Miss. 2. James H. Davis
    3. Thanks for all of the positive feedback on the Puncheon Camp Church Minutes. I am happy to play a role in the dissemination of the information, but the primary people to be thanked are Mrs. Sue Davis of Minor Hill who transcribed the records for me from xerox copies in her possession, and to the gentleman who found the records in the attic above the poarch of the old Noblett Home near Minor Hill. I'll try to find that fella's name (I have it somewhere) and pass it along. In any case, it's through efforts of people like that gentleman and Sue that old records which many others might regard as junk have been saved to become a valuable resource for the rest of us. And, while we're doing back-patting, let's thank Dave Worsham for the great job he's doing with the Giles County web page. You wouldn't believe how fast he's getting posted the things that people are sending him. Finally, lets remember Clara Parker and the other great folks at Giles County Historical Society who are so selfless in helping out those of us researching Giles County ancestors. Hats off to you all!

    1. [TNGILES-L] An Open Email to my "Upstairs" Relatives
    2. Jan Johnson
    3. This came through this morning from another list I subscribe to. I thought we'd all get a kick out of reading it, since we've all faced such situations (a dozen times or so). Jan in Arizona ******* After spending a frustrating evening pouring over illegible handwriting in badly damaged and out of focus parish registers - and still NOT finding my relatives, I thought it was time to send an open email (at www.ofcoursethereisaHeaven.com) to all my "Upstairs" relatives who have gone to Heaven (99% of them) or the Other Place (1%). The text follows. (Feel free to insert your own relative's names where appropriate.) "Dear ________: I am your _________ and living in the late 20th century here in ___________. I am sitting in front of a microfilm projector (I'll explanation what that is in a later email) in a special library run by the LDS (nice people, but later on them, too) trying to decipher the small and shaky handwriting of your parish's curate. He must have been either vertically challenged or had palsy - because it's unreadable! At least I think it's your parish! I'm not even sure of the decade! Thanks for leaving such a good paper trail. (Sarcasm intended.) According to family legend, you and your wife ___________ had _____ children, some of whom lived beyond infancy. Yet not a single one was recorded in the parish records! I can't even find your marriage certificate. You two WERE married, right? Didn't you know that there would be legions of people like me fanatically spending their waking hours and small fortunes looking for any and all traces of your lives? Were you just stubborn, couldn't afford the fees, or not members of the Established Church? You're wondering, "What's all the fuss, we're dead as doornails?" We're not sure, but I think down here we're infected with the same disease: Rootsus obsessionus. Of course, WE are going to leave better records for our descendants! Anyway, I'm glad I was able to vent my frustrations upward. If I couldn't do that, I'd have probably popped the obnoxious researcher next to me who is right now translating an old record in German - and out loud, for God's sake (oops!) I have an idea.... When I'm "dead-on" (pardon the expression) to finding the correct record, give me some sort of sign. Make the projector bulb flicker twice. Or, if it must be done in the privacy of my home, I have a Labrador Retriever. Talk through her. That will get my attention for sure. Thanks for listening. I'll be better in the morning..... I'll be back at the library tomorrow night for Round 14, so catch me there. Sincerely, Your ___________,

    3. Howdy, Thank you Mr. Davis for transcribing the Puncheon Camp Church minutes. I'm looking forward to them being place on the Giles county website. I'm hoping you have information on my G-G-G-Grandfather, Benjamine Jefferson LEE. I was told that he was a preacher or elder in that church. I saw in the Goodspeed's history, on the web page, that Puncheon Camp was a "Hard-Shell" Baptist Church. I didn't really know what that meant until recently when a cousin, who is a Missionary Baptist preacher, told me. >From what I understand, the "hard-shell" Baptists are what is officially called the Primitive Baptists. They got the knickname "hard-shell" from others, particularly the Missionary Baptists. My grandmother was a Primitive Baptist and her fater was a preacher in the church. 3. My Joseph Barnett had two sons who we know went from Spartanburg Co, SC to Giles Co, Tenn. before 1814 - names were Richard Barnett b.1773 and John b.1766. Coult their brother Elijah Barnett b.1776 have also gone to Giles co, Tenn? Richard's wife was Susannah Smith before she married Richard - could Agnes Lancaster, wife of Samuel L., or Henry Golightly's wife, or Mr. Shands's wife have been sister or sisters of Susannah Smith?? They all went to Giles County about the same time from Spartanburg.
