    3. For Barfieldb@aol.com Here is the paragraph out of Goodspeed Biographies that I have on W. S. CURTIS. CURTIS, MCMURRAY, BUSSELL, OLIVER, WOODWARD W. S. CURTIS, a farmer, and a native of Madison Co., AL was born November 14, 1823, son of Johnson D. and Isabella CURTIS, natives of Georgia and North Carolina, respectively. The father was a farmer by occupation and died in 1826. The mother was of Irish descent and died in 1824. Our subject was reared by his aunt, Mrs. McMurray, and received his education in the Giles Co. schools. In 1844 he married Margaret BUSSELL, a daughter of Robert and Nancy BUSSELL. Mrs. CURTIS was born in 1822 and died August 19, 1858. By this union our subject became the father of five children: Robert J., a farmer of Giles Co., ; T. D., a resident of Pulaski; W.A., a farmer of Giles Co.,; James M.., now in Lawrence County, MO., and J.D. of Lincoln County, TN. After marriage, Mr. CURTIS bought 150 acres of land in Giles Co., TN, where he located and remained six years. He then disposed of that property and bought 224 acres in the Sixteenth District of Lincoln County, where he is now living. He now owns 300 acres of very desirable land. October 23, 1859, he married A. OLIVER, a native of Lincoln County, born January 13, 1834, and a daughter of E. P. and Sarah OLIVER. This marriage of our subject resulted in the birth of eight children: Julia, wife of W.T. WOODWARD; C.L.; E.S.; C.M; F.J.; A.L.; J.H.; and Alexander. Mr. CURTIS has always been a hard working, industrious man, and has been quite successful in business, and has given his children the advantage of acquiring a good English education. He is a Democrat in politics and cast his first presidential vote for Taylor. He and wife are members of the New School Presbyterian Church. page 884-885 This is what the book says out on the web, after printing the whole thing. I would like to know the children's children. Kathy

Per the Book "The Browning Family History, David C. Browning and His Descendants, 1782-1990)" The history of Giles County indicates that some of the first settlers in the Shoal Creek area were Reuben RIggs and James Paisley, both of whom were mentioned later in Browning land records. The first church erected there was the Shoal Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1818, on Paisley's land. History indicates that four Browning families lived in this area in 1818. It is believed that David Browning's family belonged to the Cumerland Presbyterian Church at Shoal Creek. I know that the Paisley's & Brownings lived at or near Stella Tennessee. This is the group that I tried for about 5 years to prove that I descended from. The book mentioned above also has a lot of Long's listed in it, but I did not see a Sarah. This family is connected to the Nicholas Browning and Nicholas Long (neighbors) in the 1850 census of Limestone County, AL. --part0_902236053_boundary--

    1. [TNGILES-L] Little Shoal Creek
    2. Marilyn K. Hare
    3. Mary asks the location of Little Shoal Creek. On the 1878 Beers map there is a West Fork of Little Shoal Creek beginning near Anthony Hill running SW toward Minor Hill and then SE to below Stella where it joins with the East Fork of Little Shoal Creek. The East Fork begins southwest of Anthony Hill running SW through Stella joining with the West Fork at Mud Bottom near the Alabama border. Dog Branch, Jones Branch and Hanna Branch empty into the East Fork. On a current map "Little" is omitted so you'll see only West Fork of Shoal Creek and East Fork of Shoal Creek. After the two converge it flows into Limestone Co AL. Regards, Marilyn K. Hare mkhare@bellsouth.net Researching KERR, BROWNLOW, PAISLEY, REAGIN, SMITH
