Hi, everybody. I am looking for information on the family of Elizabeth Ezell who was married to Robert Buchanan and was the mother of Presley B. Buchanan,b. about 1815 in Giles County. I believe she is connected to the Ezells who came to Giles with the Bumpass party about 1807. If there is someone working on this line, I would appreciate a contact -- and will share what I have happily. TIA. Dave, To post pictures of relatives to the "Giles County Photos" do you need actual pictures or scanned files? If scanned, in what format? Great job Dave! Thanks, Ann
Hi Folks, I added a new section today called the "Photo Album". In there I have placed our ancestor photos, tombstone photos and a new button for "Other Photos". In here I will put photos of buildings, monuments, other Giles County photos that might be of interest to everyone. So if you have any such photos, send them along. To get started, Lynn Pierce Appling has sent along a few photos. Thanx Lynn. Dave www.rootsweb.com/~tngiles/ icq#4202467
This was posted to a group with which I correspond. I thought it was worth passing on. Jan in Arizona ********** I found this on the Jefferson County web page, compliments of Nancy Dixon and thought I would pass it on: To help find wife's maiden name: -------------------------------------------------------------------- In the lower left hand corner of most old deeds, you will find signatures of two to four witnesses. The first one is always from the husband's side. The next one is always from the wife's side. That is to protect her 1/2 dower right under the law. Nothing you will ever use will give greater clues to maiden names than witnesses on old deeds
Can anyone help regarding the wagon train out of Giles(especially Pulaski) Co. Tn. between 1879-1881. Would there be a "LIST" of the names of the families that were on that Wagon Train drive into Tx. Am very interested in knowing if a James Moore CRABB was on that Wagon Train. Alledgely he was. He was born 1853/6 Giles Co. Tn. died 1929 Hopkins Co. Tx. He possibly was still in Giles Co. Tn 1874. He married in Camp Co. Tx. 1881 Mattie Julia STOVALL. Thanks much. Mary ellen@airmail.net
Hi, I am working on the SANDY family. My earliest records are of Joseph SANDY who sold land in Giles Co. in 1830. Margaret SANDY on the 1820 census for Giles Co. may be his mother. If anyone spots this surname, SANDY, on any records in Giles Co., I would appreciate knowing, because it probably belongs to me. I sure thank Dave for the 1836 tax list, as Joseph SANDY is on it in District 4. Isn't it fun! Mary
I would like to make contact with some one who has any information on Benjamin Slaton of Giles County. Benjamin married Mary ? with the following children in the 1870 Giles county census>Benjamin F., Amandy, LaFayette, Eliza< I have reason to believe that William H. Slaton would be the brother to Benjamin. William H. Slaton married Alitha Grisham of Lauderdale County. William H. died at the home of Benjamin and is buried at Prospect Tenn. There is also a Benjamin Slayten/Slayton that married Eliza Carter Smithson on March 2, 1837 in Williamson Tenn. Does anyone know if these two connect?

Hi Folks, I would like to know if you can tell what browser you are using and what version you use. I test out the web page with Netscape 4.0 and I.E. 4.0 to be sure it works. I would like to know what other versions or browsers anyone is using. Dave icq#4202467
The 1820-1850 Censuses identify a William MARKS, b. 1777, living with a woman at least 7 years his elder. In 1830, a male, age 20-30, is living with the couple. I believe this gentleman to be the brother of Thomas MARKS of Giles Co. Can anyone help me with information about William or his wife. Thanks James Marks McCall (Mark McCall)
Hi Folks, Todays update includes Dists 1 & 2 of the 1836 Tax list. Dave icq#4202467
My George W SELLERS (how many were there?) as noted in Giles County TN probate records of 1846: he died at his residence about 1842 or 1843 leaving widow Eliza (CHILDRESS), and children Demarcus L, Frances L, Mary E, America and Henry O. Other records show he was born July 4, 1799. A letter written to me by a distant cousin in 1980 states: "I know the names of our Sellers ancestors back to my great great grandparents, Henry Sellers and his wife, Elizabeth Hinkle Sellers. I don't have the date of Henry's birth. The Family Bible record just says he was born in Pennsylvania and died in Columbus, Ohio in 1831. He married Elizabeth Hinkle who was born in Holland -- I don't have her birth date either -- and came to Virginia when she was four four years old. She also died in Columbus, Ohio. They had 10 or 12 children but I don't have the birth and death dates of any of them except George W Sellers who was my great grandfather. They are all in the family Bible record back home in Tennessee." "George W Sellers was born in Emmitsburg, Maryland on July 4,1799. His family lived in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia awhile and left there in 1828 to to to Columbus, Ohio. I don't believe George W went to Columbus with them because he came to Tennessee and married Eliza Childress about 1824. He was a carpenter and helped to build the Childress home which is still standing (this was in 1980 and since has burned I was told. BT) in Lincoln County, Tennessee between Pulaski and Fayetteville. They were a wealthy family who thought Eliza disgraced herself when she married a man that had to work for a living. George W bought the farm where I grew up and is buried in a field there under an old box tomb. He was born July 4, 1799 and died May 30, 1842. Eliza Childress Sellers was born March 17, 1809 in a stable in Franklin while her family were on their way from North Carolina to their Tennessee home. She died April 17, 1893." Can anyone expand on this information? And does anyone in Giles County know of the whereabouts of this bible? Bil Trott
