Does anyone know if there is still an active Mason's Lodge in the Minor Hill vicinity, and how I might contact a member to see how far back their records go? Thanks! Jim Davis

    1. [TNGILES-L] McGill's
    2. James H. Davis
    3. Hi, Folks: Want to refresh your memories about Giles Co. McGill's. The original members of the clan were apparently Robert & Elizabeth McGill, who settled there before ca. 1820. There were others, possibly Roberts siblings, there as well, incl. Thomas and C.T. A James McGill lived just across the state line in Limestone Co., AL. The McGill property, as best I can ascertain, was essentially the area around where the Booth Chapel church now stands. Robert & Elizabeth had seven or eight children, ones with known names being: Peterson, Joel, Isaac and Elihu. Peterson seems to have been the only one to have remined in the area indefinitely. Peterson, born 1816, died 1888, had four wives and 17(!) children. Wives were: Mahala LONG (m. 1836); Oda MARBUT (m. abt 1850); Sarah Sherwood (m. 1871); Catherine DALY (m. 1873). It's a pretty safe bet that most, if not all, of the McGill's in Limestone, Lauderdale, Giles and Lawrence Co. are branches of one of these lines. Would love to touch base with any McGill researchers. Would also like to know the name and mailing address of the family which lives in the house on the hill at the Booth Chapel Church, to write them and see if they know anything about the history of that immediate vicinity. Thanks, Jim Davis

Bridgett ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- From: Nrbb@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 20 Sep 1998 14:24:24 EDT To: bascs@snark.wizard.com Subject: help Hi. Contacting you from the Ga. genweb site, hoping for some help. Thanks in advance. I'm on a bit of a quest and need all of the help I can get. I have come across an old family photo album, and would love to get it to someone to whom it might have some sentimental value. Only problem is there aren't a lot of identified people in the pictures. One of them, however, is at a birthday party in Conyers, Ga for a Miss Layon Glenn, who turned 94 on March 8, 1960. Photo may be in a nursing home. The central people in the photo album seem to be a Fred and Lina Glenn, who apparently lived in St. Pete Fla. in the 1950s, and in Tennesee (knoxville and signal mtn. areas) in the 1920-30s. I suspect Fred Glenn may be a nephew of Miss Layon Glenn, but that's just a guess. Fred Glenn had a sister identified as Effie Bean, but no information as to where she lived. There is a very old picture of a Wallis Glenn, but again no info. That's not much to go on, but I hoped the Conyers connection might give me a direction to follow. If you have any suggestions, I would much appreciate them. I just hate to think there are family members somewhere who might enjoy this old photo album, pictures mostly from 1920s-60s. Would love to get it to a descendant of some of those families,. Found on internet at http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/data/ky+index+3176732253+F 11th Kentucky Volunteers The following names were compiled from Regimental Records at the National Archives. Spelling of names, along with alternate spellings, are as they appear on the Muster Rolls. Succeeding entries are: rank at enlistment, company assigned, age at enlistment, date enlisted and where enlisted. All enlistments were for three years, unless otherwise noted. The regiment was mustered into Federal Service on 9 Dec 61 at Calhoun, Kentucky. Hospitalizations, wounds, transfers, promotions and other information are also included. The regiment was mustered out of Federal Service 14-17 Dec 64 at Bowling Green, Kentucky. Unfortunately, the regimental papers were lost to Confederate forces on 23 Nov 64 due to the abandonment of Pulaski, Tennessee by Federal forces. Major General Schofield ordered the evacuation of Pulaski to return to Nashville and only essential materials were taken along. However, a few duplicate enlistment and discharge certificates still survive. Grubb, Douglas David, 2nd Sergeant, F Co, 43 yrs, 15 Oct 61 at Rochester, KY. Jan-Apr 62 sick at Columbia, TN. 3. The Luker Family, A History & Genealogy by Vera Goodman Luker I found a copy of this book in the Marshall Co Library in Lewisburg TN. Old Joseph Luker was in Giles Co by at least 1810. The homestead was in District #10 Northeast of Pulaski. I am interested in Eliza Luker who married John A Porch Feb 4, 1869, F W Pardue bondsman, and J B Calhoun as Minister of the Gospel. 1880 Census Obion Co John A Porch 51; dau. Chesley 9; and stepdau Nettie 12 The book speculates that Eliza could be the widow of James R Luker whose will was probated July 16, 1870 (Will Book B p 76 Obion Co TN) For this to be true one of the dates must be wrong, so am looking for more information on Eliza Luker that married John A Porch. virginia@isgroup.net
