Hi folks, I need help. I am searching for information regarding A.C. and Millie ROSE. I don't have Millie maiden name, nor do I have any dates. Their son, Thomas Wesley ROSE was born 07 May 1880 in Claiborne Co. TN, but A.C. and Millie are not located on the Claiborne, Union or Grainger Co. TN census records; nor has a marriage record been found. I was searching for A.C. ROSE and happened to find one on the 1st Alabama Calvary Roster with the following information: Rose, A.C. Pvt., Co. B, age 42, EN 2/23/64 Pulaski, TN, MI 3/27/64, Decatur, AL, born Habersham Co., GA, blacksmith, detached as scout for Gen. Dodge 3/28/64, deserted 6/1/65 while on scout. So now I have turned my search to Giles Co. TN. Can anyone out there help me? A.C. and Millie are not on the 1860 Giles Co., TN Census. Does anyone have the 1870 Giles?? How about a marriage record for an A.C. and Millie? Can anyone tell me what name "Millie" could be a nickname for?? Thanks, Jerry Rose

My "brick wall" in my family tree is William A. Chapman. He was born in Virginia about 1780. He married Dolly (Dorthula) Moore who was born about 1785 in Virginia. William and Dolly moved with their three small children (Elijah, Nancy, and Asa) to Giles County, TN about 1811. They settled on the waters of Richland and Blue Creek. William had a brother named Benjamin (born 1794 in VA) who also moved to Giles. In the 1820 Giles Census, along with William and Benjamin, there were a John and a Thomas and a Peggy Chapman. I suspect John and Thomas were brothers to William and Benjamin. Peggy lived next door to Benjamin...she could have been a mother or possibly an aunt or sister-in-law. Dolly, William's wife had a brother who settled in Giles Co. named Shadrack Moore. My problem is: 1. Where in Virginia did William and Dolly come from? 2. Who were William and Dolly's parents? I know there's a lot of descendants of William and Dolly's in Giles County, can anyone help me? Thanks, Mike Chapman
Would you please check for a Dick or Richard Davidson, or a W. P. (Presley) harrison in Giles Co. Thanks. Barb-Irving, TX

I have on loan from the Tennessee State Library Flournoy Rivers Manuscripts and History of Pisgah, by W. Thomas Cardin, compiled by Clara M. Parker & Edward Jackson White. The "Manuscripts" are primarily abstracts of court records & minute books from the early 1800s, with some cemetery data. The "History" is biographical, most of its subjects being Methodists. There is a last name index to the "Manuscripts" but no index to the "History." Every Name Index to Eighteen Middle Tennessee County Record Books, by Byron Sistler, indexes both these works by first and last name. I do not have the "Index" but do have copies of pages with the names HICKMAN, Eliza through HIGGINS, Joseph; HITT, Early through HOBBS, John M.; and LEFTWICH through LENTS, John. During the next week I will be happy to do lookups in the "Manuscripts," and if your ancestor's name is on the pages of the "Index" that I have then in the "History." Both the "Manuscripts" and the "History" are worthwhile and I would urge those of you with ancestor's in Giles County in the early 1800s to get your hands on a copy of this book. I am searching for ANYONE who may be descended from any of these folks, who may have "family tradition" or other information to help me solve a riddle. Elizabth Ann Bowers, dau of George Bowers and Nancy S Brooks, married #1 William E Austin. They had 3 daughters: Sarah Ann (1842-1892)m 1871 James A Dogan Mary eleanor (1843-1913) m H M Beatty Georgianna Tennessee (1846-1922) m Collis O'dell Wynne. After the death of her husband, and after her 3 daughters had married, Elizabeth remarried to a widower named James C BUTLER in 1874. James C had been previously married to Sarah Lucinda McGuire and had children Calvin Arthur, Harriet Melissa, Sarah, Cornelius, and Rachel Jane. Elizabeth Ann Bowers Austin Butler died March 8, 1901 and was interred in the Bowers-Phillips Cemetery. James C Butler appears to have died between 1901-2, but I have never been able to locate a gravesite or definite date for him. I am a descendant of his son Calvin Arthur Butler, who moved to Oklahoma long before his father died in TN. Regina Roper

Am looking for Benjamin Patton Fletcher [b. 1847?] and wife Mary [Molly] Virginia Dotson [ b. 1843?]. Date of marriage about 1872. Their first two children were born in Giles Co, TN in 1873 and 1876. The family had moved to Texas by 1882. I am hoping some kind soul with access to an 1870 census will look to see if they are listed in the 1870 Giles Co, TN census either as individuals or as a couple? If Benjamin is listed with his parents, his father's name may have been Henry. Thanks so much. Happy holidays to all. Juanita in California Juanitz@aol.com
