I go to the local LDS FHC almost every Tuesday night. The volunteers from the church say that LDS is spending millions to put their records on-line. It's accurate but no actual dates have been shared with the local church - they had heard February but that was just a rumor at the time. No word yet on whether there will be a charge for accessing the files - seems to me they have to fund such a large site somehow though. Guess we'll see. Hi, As a memeber of the MOGenWeb of the USGenWeb project, I must correct the URL for the USGenWeb...the correct URL is www.usgenweb.net OR www.usgenweb.org the " .com" link is NOT for the volunteer USGenWeb site, but for the commercialized business for profit. While the names are the same, the ".com" site has the copyright on the name for its business purposes. Not trying to ruffle anyones feathers, it is just that being a part of the USGenWeb, we are NOT allowed to collect any payment for the services that are offered under the ".net and .org" sites. Thanks for your patience, and sorry to leave the list topic Mr. Worsham. Hi to All on List(s), The link to USGenWeb, http://www.usgenweb.com/ (that most of you will recognize) has two very useful features on the Special Projects Page that could be very helpful to new genealogy researchers using the web. On the USGenWeb page scroll down and select Special Projects on the next page select Search Option and a page pops up where you can enter among other things, a surname and click on the state you wish to search in and the system will return all the files for the state selected that contains your surname entry, you can scroll through the list of files, open them and/or down load them. You can also enter a County name, select a state and will be returned a list of all files with that county name in them. The page has a good explanation about how to search other ways also. Again on the Special Projects page is an option for Military Records Project, that leads to a page listing all the major US Wars and clicking on one of them will give you a list of files with information on the specific war you selected and useful links to other military information sites. Under the Indian Wars are also links to information on Native American records. I apologize to those of you who are, as I am, on several mail lists for duplicates you will receive. Since I have never seen these options mentioned I would like to reach as many new researchers as possible. This is just one among many wonderful search sites on the web. emo
This just came over the McCune list. Thought it was worth passing along. Jan in Arizona To all genealogists, A great new web site is now on-line titled "AfriGeneas" that is dedicated to helping African Americans trace their roots through access to slave records. The site owner is asking for submissions from folks who have slaveowners in their ancestry. What a great idea! I have often wished I could do something with many of the old wills, etc., I have acquired which mention slaves, but never really knew what I could do. Well, now is the chance to do something GOOD out of a legacy that caused such harm. The address for the site is: http://members.aol.com/slavedata/Public/index.htm Bob Francis

Hello, I've been reading in The Goodspeed Histories of Giles, Lincoln, Franklin, and Moore Counties this morning. I have found some possible connections to my line and would like to know if anyone can respond on any of these: ----------- Franklin Co: George Gray, settled on Crow Creek 1809 in Franklin County - 3 miles from Winchester Farm was owned by Isaac Grey in 1886 Solomon Wagoner 1808 land grant - 200 acres on Boiling Fork, Franklin Co. W.B. Wagoner County Court Clerk from 1834-36 Solomon Wagoner Register 1826-36 War of 1812 - George Waggoner, William Crawford discharged 7-23-1848 -------------- Moore County: Frederick Waggoner and family settled b/4 War of 1812 in which he participated in Battle of Horseshoe Bend I can't type all the connections in Moore county as there are so many but I don't have Frederick in my Waggoner line and was curious as to where he might fit. -------------- Giles County: Drury Stovall settled early 1800's ------------ LINCOLN County: Thomas Leonard settled in Cane Creek between 1800-1820 Parks and Waggoners - early settlers in the 12 and 13th districts (as of today which was 1886) Tavern keepers in the 18 teens: John Parks and Collins Leonard 8th TN confederate under Col A.S. Thank you everyone for all the help on this and glad to see others are interested too...... here is the name ect.. on the book It is all about those and is suppose to list them, of who came from Tenn to Texas... Horn, Robert Cannon, b. 1844. The annals of Elder Horn, early life in the Southwest, arranged by John Wilson Bowyer and Claude Harrison Thurman. New York, R. R. Smith, inc., 1930.

I have the following info via a lookup from the Giles County Cemetery Book: Elk Ridge Cemetery: Name Birth Death Other Inscriptions James Meadow ? May ? in the 76th yr of his age Elizabeth Meadow 1828 in the ?? Of her age; consort of James Does anyone live in the area and have access to this cemetery? I was wondering if there were a possibility of squeezing more data from those two tombstones via more modern techniques (or perhaps someone already has more complete data). I know that some of the cemetery books done years ago did not use any techniques to bring out old engravings on the tombstones. (Marsh's book for Bedford County is a good example.) I have found that things that were once thought illegible become visible with the use of shaving cream and a squeegee.

I would like to correspond with anyone with information about the family of SHELBY H. HARWELL who was born about 1815 in either NC or TN (depending on the census record). He died in 1880 in Franklin, Simpson Co., KY. The name of his first wife is unknown. His second wife was Sarah ..?.., b. 1825c, KY. His oldest son was born in TN in 1838c, but he must have moved to the Simpson Co., KY area shortly thereafter. His children were: [1] ALFRED WASHINGTON HARWELL, b. 1838c, TN, md: Margarette .?.. [2] WILLIAM HARWELL, b. 1839c, KY, (Methodist Preacher in 1860) [3] MARY J. HARWELL, b. 1844c, KY [4] SHELBY H. HARWELL, JR., b. 1846c, KY, d. 1926, KY, md: Mary Elizabeth Bryan in 1870 in Sumner Co., TN. [5] SARAH "SADIE" HARWELL, b. 1852c, KY, d, 1921, KY, md: William Thornberry Paswater in 1871. [6] ALMEDA HARWELL, b. 1855c, KY [7] ANNIE HARWELL, b. 1861c, KY I don't know that Shelby Harwell came from the Giles Co., TN area, but seeing the large number of Harwell families there, I thought I would ask for information. Thank you. Steve Kirkham Yorktown, VA
