Does anyone know wo is in charge of or owns the Mt. Carmel Cemetery outside of Bethel?
Wanda, I don't know if this is your Sophronia TAYLOR or not but I have this information on a Sophronia TAYLOR in my lines. It isn't much but may be a connection/clue for you. Sophronia D. TAYLOR-b.?-d.? married 12 Jan. 1869 in Williamson Co. TN to Allen J. FAULKENBERRY-b. 1843 -d.? also possible sister Holley T. TAYLOR-b.abt 1845 -d. 1877 in Williamson Co. TN- married 2 Oct. 1862 to Henry H. FAULKENBERRY-b.1838 in Williamson Co.TN -d. bef 17 Dec. 1886 in same Co. They had 3 children. Henry was older brother of Allen J. The surname FAULKENBERRY has many different spellings, (sometimes in the same document!) Falkenberry,Falkenbury, ect. Henry's son from his next marriage married into the Hendrix family of Giles Co. TN. I don't have much else on these TAYLOR girls but if you think we have a connection I would love to have more and be more than happy to give you what else I may have. Thanks in advance, Heather

Can anyone do a lookup for me in the following book and let me know the information contained there? The marriage in question is between Andrew GORDON and Eliza GOFF. "Early Marriages in Giles County Tennessee" by Clara M. Parker on p.23. Thanks Fred Gordon in Texas
Dear Giles Countians, Here I am up in Franklin, Tenn., trying to figure out where I came from. :) . No, I was raised in Lewisburg, but I have recently discovered that my Massey ancestors MAY have been some of the earliest settlers of your truly beautiful Giles County. You have every right to be proud of it. As you know, southwestern Marshall Co. was northeastern Giles Co. until 1871. I am searching for an inhabitant of that area. His name was JOHN MASSEY (1789? - 1858). His wife was MARY HENRY MASSEY with about the same dates. His children include DRURY MASSEY, who married ELEANOR HAYNES of Giles Co. and who moved to Lauderdale Co. around 1840; ELIZA MASSEY, who married JOHN C. DARE and moved to Arkansas; JOSEPH H. MASSEY of Arkansas; JAMES H. MASSEY (m. a Coble?) of Missouri; LEROY F. MASSEY of Giles/Marshall Cos.; JOHN WESLEY MASSEY (my gggrandfather), who married Louiza Short of the Spring Place Shorts; ELIZA (?) MASSEY, who married THOMAS BURGESS of Giles Co.; LUCINDA C. MASSEY, who married W.C. PORCH; and MARY MASSEY, who married JOHN BURGESS of Giles Co. I'm aware that Ephraim Massey was an early resident of the Cornersville area, but I don't believe I'm directly related to him, although I'm not absolutely certain. If you have any information on any of these people, please e-mail on up here to me. Thanks in advance. Bill Massey In F. C. & L. Most sincerely, William R. (Bill) Massey

Hi, I appreciate your keeping us updated on what's going on. I have not been able to find the Latter Day Saints Family Search. If it is online now please give specifics. Thanks, Bonnie
Here's the latest on the family search site. Jan in Arizona Of the three major files available for search at the Family History Centers, ANCESTRAL FILE, the INTERNATIONAL GENALOGICAL INDEX, and the FAMILY HISTORY LIBRARY CATALOG. Only the FAMILY HISTORY LIBRARY CATALOG will be available online. It will be the most current version, more current than any library now has in it's possession. Basically the FAMILY HISTORY LIBRARY CATALOG is a complete listing of every record in the possession of the Mormon libraries located anywhere in the world. You can search these records several ways. Locality, surname, film/fiche number/and author. By finding out what is available you can then decide whether you might like to order the kinformation. Not everything is available for order. Many living people do not allow their books to be microfilmed. However, a library in your area may have the book listed. You can find that out through the catalogue. The ANCESTRAL FILE is basically no different than the disks sold by Family Tree Maker containing ancestor charts. The info on these charts can be submitted by anyone whither or not they are a member of the church. The INTERNATIONAL GENEALOGICAL INDEX information can only be submitted by members. It consists of Individual data that lists birthdates, place of birth and parents. There is a marriage index that gives date and place of marriage. And lastly a parent index which lists all children in a particular family. The info is obviously only as good as the person who submitted it to the file. We tell people to use the data as a starting point only and NOT to take it as the absolute proof. When anything is submitted to ancestral file, you can automatically find out who submitted it by hitting a source key. The persons name and address will be shown. The same is not true for the IGI. You need to order the microfilm in order to find out who the submitter was. The church is currently working very hard at extracting as much information as possible from original records. It is an ongoing process that is checked and double checked for accuracy. As the data becomes available it is distributed to the libraries, once again at no charge to patrons. Neither of these files are going to be released online, at least not at this time. Just when will it go online?? Good question. We were told "sometime in March." So it could be online as early as tomorrow, but maybe not. Don't be discouraged if it is not there tomorrow, just check back again. It is going to be online for about a month to see how it works. I have no idea what the plans are for future release. Anyway, you now have the facts straight from the top as I was told them at our meeting. The address will be Familysearch.org
Hi, Thought I might see who can help with my search. I am trying to get a copy of the marriage license of Joel L. GRAVES, b. abt 1836 in TN and Margaret E. ALLEN b. abt 1842, Charlotte, Virginia - married abt 1864 in Giles, TN. Any help or suggestions. I know there was a courthouse fire around that time, so don't know where to look. I am hoping to get more information through the marriage license. Thanks, Di
