Thought I would pass this on. James Frank Randolph & Martha had a few more children: Emma L. Randolph ( born July 7, 1892 ) Ida Belle Randolph ( rumor has it, was twin to Emma ) Mary Jo Randolph. ( born abt. 1886 ) Nancie C. Randolph. ( born abt. 1889 ) Walter Houston Randolph. ( born abt. 1885 ) Samuel Randolph. ( born abt. 1879 ) Walter Houston Randolph married a woman by the name of Emma Virginia Randolph, they had 2 children : a son named James Randolph and a daughter named Blondena Randolph. Blondena Randolph married a man by the name of Estele Lee Hatfield, he was born sept. 10, 1919 in McMinville, Warren, Tennessee, and was the son of John Hatfield & Viola Hillis. By some small chance would these people happen to ring a bell with anyone on this list ? Many many thanks. Robbie
Hello Fellow List Members, Found out some new info today, thought I would pass it along and see if any of it may ring a bell. Here's hoping . Walter H. Randolph, son of James Frank & Martha, married a woman by the name of Emma, last name unknown to me at this time. Walter H. Randolph & Emma had at least 2 children, a son named James, and a daughter named Blondina. Was also told that Walter may have been married at least 3 times, but so far, I am taking that as a rumor. Was told that there was a possibility that James Randolph may have ended up in Oklahoma, but so far, I am treating that as a rumor also. Many Thanks, Respectfully: Robbie

Does anyone have info on a Wesley Long that married a Florence Rose Green dec. 30, 1920 in Giles Co. Tennessee ? What about an Ezra Long that married Ella Johnson on June 27, 1909 ? Ezra Long married Maggie Simpson ? My great uncle Ezra Long was born on may 5, 1881 and died march 18, 1965, he was the son of Daniel Long and Sarah Johnson, he is buried at Booth Chapel. Any info would be appreciated. Many, many thanks in advance. Robbie
No, there was not a fire. There was a cyclone in 1909. Many records were lost, but some are still extant. Yes, they go back to 1818...I have some from as early as 1809. Write to the Giles Co Courthouse Old Records Dept to Mrs Clara Parker. Tell her your people and ask her to search for deeds. She will copy all she can locate and send you a bill. If you also want her to look for court records she will. Regina Roper

Hello fellow list members, Returned home at 2 a.m. this morning from vacation. I visited with one of my aunts, who is 82 years young, she threw a few more names at me, would appreciate any help at all. Daniel Long & Sarah had another son named Willie Long, sorry nothing else on him. And she said that she can't remember all of Wesley Long's children except for a daughter named Reba Long. Do these two new names ring a bell ? She also said that james frank Randolph had another son other than Walter H. Randolph, she believed his name was Sam Randolph. Do these 2 names ring a bell ? Thanks in advance. Robbie

Johannes Meerbodt [the last name has several spellings.... it basically translates from the German to mean someone from or from near a swamp] was the "old man" of the clan. He was a shoemaker by training, but at some point indentured himself to an auger maker in his hometown of Hanua. The story has it that he made and sold various things on the side, and that when he had squirrelled away enough, he bought passage to America. He arrived in Philadelphia in 1784. He went to work for a Quaker family named Inman from Lancaster County. The deal was that he'd work a few years for them, then would be given a parcel of land and an animal to work the farm. After about a year, he eloped with the Inman's daughter Sarah, and they moved to South Carolina. Her family shunned her since she married a non-Quaker. In 1803, Johannes received his American citizenship, at which time he appears to have begun using an Americanized form of his name, John Marbut. John & Sarah Inman Marbut had several children, one of whom was John Jr, another of whom was Daniel. Most of the children migrated to Giles Co., TN by the late 1830's. John, Jr., married Ann Thomas of SC. They had Eodus Everline Marbut, born in 1832, in SC. This Oda married Peterson McGill in Giles Co. about 1850. Oda had an uncle, Daniel Marbut, who had a daughter who was also named Eodus Everline. This Oda was born in the 1840's and was not Peterson's wife. If I recall, she appears not to have married, and is buried somewhere in North Alabama. Peterson McGill's wife Oda appears to have died in childbirth in 1870, giving birth to a daughter whom Peterson named Oda. Later, Peterson married a third time, to Sarah Sherwood, who died in 1873 without issue. Peterson married in 1873 for a fourth time, to Catherine Daly of Limestone Co., AL. She & Peterson had several children before his death in 1888, one of whom was named Mahala, apparently after his first wife Mahala Long. Catherine lived until at least 1912, at which time she was still drawing a widow's pension from Peterson's CSA service. Interestingly, none of the cemetary books for any of the four counties in which Peterson McGill lived during his life (Lauderdale & Limestone in Alabama, Giles and Lawrence in Tennessee) have listings for him or any of his four wives, though many of his 17(!) children are there, principally in Oxford Cem (Giles) and Booth Chapel. I suspect some of these folks are buried in some of the many graves that have just rocks in the cemetary near Puncheon Camp church, where Peterson was a member for over 30 years. I find this Long-Marbut connection interesting... My Peterson McGill, b. abt 1816, married a Mahala Long about 1836. The couple appear to have resided as of the 1840 census near Mt. After Mahala's death (about 1849), Peterson married Eodus Everline (Oda) Marbut. daughter of John Marbut, Jr. Jim On Tue, 22 Jun 1999, Minnie HILLIS REAGOR wrote: > Robbie, > The entry means that it was his only marriage (to date), and he had been married > for 27 years.... > __Minnie > > > Rick Graham wrote: > > > Robbie, > > > > In my records I have a Washington Alfred Long b. abt. 1812 in Giles County who > > married a Patsy Martha Marbut; a > > Birdie Long who married a Allen Thomas Gray; and a James Long who married Ena > > Bell Townsend. > > Maybe someone can help us with this Long Family? > > > > Rick Graham > > > > Angel12461@aol.com wrote: > > > > > Hello List Members, > > > Thought I would post this new info that a very nice person sent to me in high > > > hopes that maybe someone can shed some light on one of my many brick walls. > > > My great-grandfather Daniel Long married Sarah J. Hi All, I am new to the group and a descendant of James H. Taylor born in 1817 in TN. He married Lucy Ann Phillips born in 1818 in VA. They were married in Giles Co., in 1834 and had the following children: Olivia A., David, Robert, Mary E., Eliza J., John J. and Zachary. They were living in Giles Co. TN in the 1850 Census, but by 1860 they had left, and they don't show up again until the 1870 Census in Henry Co. TN. Does this family sound familiar to anyone?
